Dealer delivery request - no wash ?
I read some people ask the dealer not to wash their car at the car wash in order to avoid swirl marks ?
does the car comes 'swirl free' from the factory ? or does it need a paint correction anyways ? Also curious if anybody made a check list when taking delivery for example. I am not a pain maniac but I never bring my car to automated wash so I'd rather avoid the first scratch right at the dealer if that make a difference. I will most likely do a DIY ceramic coating but that's about it. |

It could be that it is a case by case basis but from everything I remember seeng, it comes with swirls from the factory so you will want to have paint correction done either way.

Swirls in the factory paint is a standard feature. If you opt for the executive package the dealership pdi person will give you the deluxe swirl treatment while doing the first wash.

Deluxe Swirl Treatment. LOL.
Took me nearly a year to get mine sorted. The dealer gave me the Lifeshine coating. Only problem was they forgot to polish the swirls out first so just locked them in!!!! Got a refund in the end. Did the correction myself with a DA polisher and correction pads with Farecla G3 correction compound. Looks good now though. |

When I had my car delivered I told them to not prep the car and leave all the plastics on the car. I then went straight for PPF wrap. It wasn't bad coming straight from the factory. It needed a minor polish I was told. If the dealer would have done the prep who knows.

My gripe with detailer or anyone else washing the car is -
I read in the forums that X5 for example has a sequence of steps that need to be followed for the wiper blades to be raised in order to be ready for wash. I am almost certain they won't do that and would rather yank it to the raised position. Not sure how you all feel about it.

We get a lot of customers who request to leave the car as is when taking delivery. They like to unwrap it and wash it themselves and thats fine, just saves us from paying the guys to do it

When I made similar courtesy requests to BMW Portland David P. He said I'm making so many demands and he has to bend over backward to meet them. These are things I requested in the email. 2. NO FRONT PLATES – THIS IS MUST – Can’t take delivery if Front Plates drilled ON. 3. Leave White protective exterior film on the car 4. Leave seat cover other interior protection on the car 5. No paint correction What a clown I'm no longer working with them. They are bunch of jokers. I'm just here doing free publicity for them LOL. Last edited by leasehackr; 12-04-2020 at 03:09 PM.. |

My PCD F80 came with no swirl marks from the factory. I requested no wash at delivery and also request the same when I took it in for mantinance.
Here's a relavent story that happened two weeks ago... I took my son with me to the local BMW dealership to check out the X5s. The had just got one in and completed the prep on it. We walked out to it and it was covered with 4" of snow. The sales guy told us to hop in. All three of us piled in and he demoed some features...then started driving...he said that he'll drive it through the car wash...keep in mind this thing is covered in snow. He drives it back to a building on the lot which houses the car wash...and it starts up....spinning brushes....scraping all the snow and ice skating n the car. I kept envisioning not only the brushes creating swirls galore...but also the ice scraping across the clearcoat!

It's best to ask for the transport stickers to be left on. I removed mine on the lot at handover then give a light clay and wash as soon as I got home, no swirls at all, very happy (Tanzanite Blue btw)
