Porsche Reveals Numerous Unseen Concepts Dating back to 2005

Some really cool concepts shown off from Porsche's design studies. These concepts date back all the way to 2005 to 2019.

Porsche Unseen is also a book of design studies available from Porsche themselves, with numerous cars and stories.
“Porsche Unseen” provides a glimpse of unreleased concept cars

911 and Macan Safari

Notice anything different about the crossover? Yes, it’s been turned into a three-door vehicle. It’s not actually a working prototype as Porsche only built a fullsize scale model of the rugged crossover, envisioned with AWD, a dual-clutch automatic gearbox, and an off-road driving mode.

While Porsche says the design study is a predecessor of the 718 Cayman GT4 “in the widest sense,” the two cars look significantly different. The Le Mans Living Legend has a less aggressive design, partly because the GT4’s big rear wing has been replaced by an electrically retractable spoiler. Look closer and you’ll notice it has an asymmetrical design as the side air vent louvers behind the window are only on the passenger side.

Sadly not shown in the images or the adjacent video, the cabin is said to be large enough to accommodate up to six people. As previously hinted in the teaser, there’s a central driver’s seat with two passengers on each side in a McLaren F1-esque layout, but with three more seats in the back.

It stays true to Porsche’s latest design language while adopting retro-inspired cues from the 550, specifically the tiny windshield and the vented engine lid in the back. The two-seater interior has been stripped down to the bare essentials and there’s an “ultra-modern roll bar” developed specifically for the Vision Spyder. Mind you, this isn’t technically a real car as we’re dealing with a 1:1 scale model as part of the company’s series of designs created between 2005 and 2019.

Macan EV?

We are pretty sure that it’s the battery powered Macan because it only has a very small opening in the front fascia (EVs don’t need as much air as vehicles with an ICE). The roofline appears to be that of a coupe-like crossover and this lends more credibility to the recent batch of photos that are said to be of the Macan EV.

Agree, I'd love to see what concepts BMW, Mercedes and other companies have stored away, I'm sure BMW has added some stuff to their "Giftschrank" (Poison Storage) Garage.

Apparently some of the models will end up on display at the Porsche Museum.

Porsche really knows how to design beautiful, knock out designs over and over for decades. Other than the 996, I cant think of one other design I do not like, ever. Too bad those powers that be at BMW dont understand this philosophy and thinks “bold” in your face follow the pack design is what people want.

That safari has been recently spotted on the Ring so wonder if it’ll make a rallye appearance one day.
Luv the 904LL and would much rather this design than the 718 tbh as its classic but unique, and modern at the same time...and the Vision Spyder looks like a modern day 914.

Would luv them to add another model to the line up, they have the blueprints ready.

aluminum body cars aren't anything special in 2020, but they do tend to dent easily. Kevlar? Um...I think we can do better than that.

I'd think that modern CF would be much better than Kevlar from the 80s. CF should be a better fit for body panels. It's very repairable, light, stiff, etc. Most people weren't messing with CF much in the 80s and 90s because the technology wasn't there yet/accessible and fiberglass/kevlar type panels and composites were far more common. Aluminum body panels is another way to save weight, but they dent easily (see my WRX). Modern CF using UD layups is extremely strong for the weight.

Porsche Patents New Sports Car Similar to Revealed Le Mans Living Legend Concept

Porsche May Be Developing a New Sports Car With Gullwing Doors, a Patent Suggests

When people think of Porsche sports cars, the 911 is surely the first model that leaps to mind. But if a new patent is any indicator, marque loyalists may soon have new model to consider.

A member of the Porsche enthusiast message board TaycanEVForum recently discovered that the German automaker filed (and was granted) a patent earlier this month that suggests the marque could have a new sports car in the works. And while any new Porsche would be cause for excitement, that may be especially true of this concept, as it appears to have a sleek, retro-inspired design and gullwing doors.

Not only do those features match the car described in the latest patent, they are depicted in seven accompanying renderings. The curvaceous vehicle shown in the paperwork, which was filed with European Union Intellectual Property Office, looks like a somewhat flattened and elongated version of the 911. It’s lower and wider than the current version of the iconic sports car, but it shares the marque’s signature nose and headlights. Meanwhile, the rear looks similar to that of the Taycan EV or Panamera, though the sloping roof line is more dramatic because the vehicle has two rather than four doors. But what really caught our eyes—and what we hope sticks around if this car makes it to production—are those gullwing doors.

While the mockups look unlike anything currently in the Porsche lineup, they do bear a striking resemblance to the Le Mans Living Legend design study it unveiled last year (h/t Autoblog). Based on the Boxster, that concept was designed to pay tribute to the 550 racing coupé that started in 1953 at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Its patent included no information about a possible drivetrain, but the marque said the rear-engine concept would be powered by an eight-cylinder engine.

Of course, while the latest filing will surely stir excitement among the Porsche faithful, that’s about all it will do for now. Automakers like Porsche file patents all the time, even for truly outlandish concepts, if only to reserve the right to develop them in the future. For now, Porsche isn’t tipping its hand. The marque told Robb Report it does not comment on speculation about potential future products.
