Maximus2002 can you just replace the stock HiFi amp with this JBL amp before swapping any speakers? I have an x45e on order, and I'm curious about doing this swap after I break in the (likely very crappy) HiFi system as a first step. I plan on then potentially upgrading speakers after that.

edit: I've never done any car audio stuff before, so I'm sorry if this is a stupid question. I'm not really afraid of taking apart trim panels and such, though, if needed.

The HiFi amp is not replaceable, unfortunately. This 8 channel JBL amplifier takes the output signals from the RAM module, and amplifies the signals by almost three times to all the 8 channels, two complete front doors, two rear doors, one center speaker & tweeter, two under seat subs, and one added sub woofer as you have seen in the pictures. Replacing all the door speakers and the tweeters is very essential. Adding the extra subwoofer was very helpful to boost the sound, so I didn't want to mess the under seat woofers.
IMHO all the questions are great, thanks for asking. If you go with this amp, or a similar amp, you will not need to take any panel off. The RAM output wire harness/connector could easily be accessed through the little panel where the first aid kit supposed to be.
You have some wiring, soldering, and wire crimping to do, but all is doable (easy for me to say that, being an EE sometimes helps ). Congratulation on your new 45e, it should be a sweet ride, thinking of getting one next year. Ask me any other question you have, I will be glad to help.

I remember I plugged the speaker cover to the one long LED close to the door handle. All the door ambient lights are in series, it means if you haven't plugged in all the way or correctly your rear right door panel connector, you won't get any power to the ambient lights on rear left and driver door panels. Please be careful when you connect and disconnect the plugs.

Thank you -- this is super helpful. I'm comfortable with crimping and soldering being a software engineer who worked with physical devices for awhile too

I want to add a sub as well -- but I dont know that I can do that since the 45e doesnt have the space under the trunk cover. I'll probably start with the speakers to start.

My car hasn't even hit production begins yet, so I have lots of time to think on this

Also where did people find the BW speaker covers? Ebay? Aliexpress? Do you just search G05 Bowers Wilkins covers?

Great to hear that from another Engineer.

Here is where I bought mine:
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005...archweb201603_

There are many other sellers on Aliexpress selling the same covers, just search for BMW G05 speaker covers, and you would them.
I bought the speakers as well, but didn't like them at all.
The good thing about my slim sub is that I could attach it to the back of one of the rear seats, thought of it when I get my 45e in near future.

I figured out why my light was partial off because on 1 side i plugged into a different led plug, it has to be the same plug for all 4 doors, if 3 doors bridge from same location plug and 1 door bridge from a different location plug, it will go all whacky out short cirtcuit the ambien light. Thannks for all your help maximus, youre a great help with this thread and quick respond to my question. i will take pic and post up here soon, and as for the middle speaker light , if you want, i can send you an email of video instruction on how to remove the dash trim and bridge from there, i got the video from the seller . let me know and i will forward to you. thanks again.

Thanks much guys! I really appreciate the link! I'm happy to have this potential project brewing in my head. I love planning and doing things like this

One question regarding the speaker grill replacements. Maximus2002 I noted that you mentioned you had to use wire clippers to get the old speaker grill out. Are they not clipped in? How did you affix the new speaker grills in place of the old ones? Are there screws or did you use glue of some kind?

Also, are the covers they're selling OEM or just similar to OEM? Pretty interesting that they're available. I wonder if you used bimmercode or some advanced coding if you could get the controls in iDrive.

these cover fitting and quality is exact Oem fitting, i believed if you got BW speakers covver from your BMW orginal order, its problably from the same outsource company because there are high quality made and fitment is on point. way better than the cheap one that came with HIFI system.

as for your question regarding maxiumus about clipping these old speaker cover off and then reattatch them, I WILL record a demonstraton video of how it is done and send to you step by step how you do it. i have 1 more door to do so i will make time to show you guys. Go order the product first because it will take about a month to arrive to U,S.

i recommend order the BW speakers with the cover too because it sound way better than the HIFI speaker came with original car.

and there no coding needed. just plug in with provided bridge cable and it will light up along with your original ambient ligght

As always, my pleasure. I am very happy that you figured it out how to fix the issue with the lights, great job right there.

Thank you for the response. I've never ordered from Ali express and honestly seems confusing. You think it was worth it? Any other source to get them from?
