I think they’re obsessed with it, considering it exists in many places in the interior too now. The rev counter and speedometer on the dash screen, the vents, the door handles inside they all have the hofmeister kink.

Center console. The drive direction thingy is a bit confusing but ok to use.
The buttons around the iDrive wheel are not ok so I hope they fix it to the 5-series.
For anyone not knowing they look like touch buttons but are push buttons but when pushing, the whole plate holding all buttons is affected.
It works, but very clunky and awful feeling.
Having to go into menus to change climate controls is also worthless. Two, three menus in to turn on or adjust seat heating? No way.

Ohh... Interior is what any owner should care the most about since that's where you are.
Completely agree on all of it, interior is a major loss of premium feeling and harder to use.

I will be holding onto my 2020 G30 M550 vs this.

Once I put the Euro LCI tails on, it will be perfect.

So if the G61 won't be for the US market is it then same to assume the previously rumored M5 touring (G99?) won't come to the US as well?

Looks that way. States it's for introduction later
To be fair when models launch it's not everything at once, may take another 6 or 12 months before all the options are available

They will prioritise electric though I suspect

But agree the classic inline 6 is one of the big bmw identities

So the full line-up for the US market will eventually be (not mentioning xdrive for the gas cars):

Gas:
  • 530i
  • 540i

Gas/Electric
  • 530e
  • 550ex
  • 560e

Full Electric
  • i5 eDrive40
  • i5 M60 xDrive

Questions:
  • Is the US getting all three hybrids?
  • For the hybrids, why is the 550 the only model with an "x"? The most powerful variant (560e) is rwd?
  • Are the hybrids all plug-ins, or just electrically-assisted?
Just looking for clarity, as the new line up is mind boggling w/ so many choices!

US will get one hybrid, at most two. My money is on 550e only.
M560e, as an M Performance model, is AWD.
All hybrids appear to be plug-in.

I'm dying at this. My god brother had a black one. So many good memories during the summers growing up visiting family in Canada.

I can't unsee this now and I love/hate you for it

That’s a weird lineup. At this time you get a progression that feels natural (530i to 530e to 540i to M550i, all available in xDrive). Next year you’ll get 530i to eDrive? 40 (but now it’s electric!) to a probably out of reach to most customers M60… ? The 540i and PHEVs will be eagerly waited. An i5 xDrive40 would probably be my choice, hope they come to Canada.
