Question Anyone here going for M50d?

Unfortunately M50i isn't available in EU. Ah least in my country. M40i is too weak per my opinion (performance/fuel usage). 30d is not an option. Maybe a hybrid will come into consideration later this year 45e.

But I am strongly leaning towards M50d. Anyone else?

I did consider it but ended up deciding it wasn’t worth the price differential.

It’s not much quicker than the 40i, and reviews I’ve watched have said it doesn’t feel much quicker than the 30d in the real world while using a fair bit more fuel.

Additionally I wanted air suspension which can be optioned on the M50d but that’s unwinding some of the ‘M’ on the vehicle, and I didn’t want the 4 wheel steering due to negative reviews, which in Australia is standard on the M50d.

I have ordered the M50d. Collecting it end of April in BMW Welt Munich. Looking forward to the torque and power. Interested to see (and feel) how the 22“ wheels with the M professional suspension will be.

yes, that's completely different approach to these vehicles than where we live. a 4x4 is a must (snow, skiing, mountains), also in diesel engines the torque is the difference. speed is lesser component per my opinion. i am driving m40i at the moment and almost never drive past 190km/h. i don't have neither desire nor a chance due to traffic conditions.

also, driving diesel engine or petrol is a completely different experience. instead i am looking for m50d solely because of it's brute power and it's weight factor. x-models are just not made for petrol. unless pure M powered.

I have chosen the M Professional Suspension. Thought about air for the comfort but really want the active stabilization DHP on a car like this. I think in comfort mode, although it won’t be as soft as air, it will be comfortable enough.

It will be. It will ride more like a sport sedan and less floaty like a luxury sedan. There is no bad ride on the new X5, just personal choices what you like.

isn't executive drive supposed to have like all versions integrated? what ever you wish? i'd really like to test those before deciding.

I do tend to agree with you there. I’m curious why the 30d isn’t an option, 620nm not quite enough?

well... for start 30d has 1 turbine while m50d has 4. this is diesel engine on steroids. this engine is so powerful it's almost unreal. if you're brute and don't really know how to handle this car (still have to be gentle sometimes, it's not a tank), you'll be visiting service often. some parts on drivetrain just aren't strong enough for these forces...

anyhow, i had a pleasure of driving m50d (previous gen) for few weeks in F11 and it is a diesel-engine driving experience on a completely different level. it's still diesel but man this engine can explode!

just looking at the numbers isn't merely enough.

I also went with the m50d. But I'm not sure yet when I'll collect it. Hopefully end of FEB. (order placed in OCT but I've waited for some DEC build parts). I absolutely love the m50d engine! Currently on F15 m50d and in confort mode it's normal, relaxed, kick it down and it still jumps, but when you want to drive in Sport, you can't compare it to 30d. No way. It's instant speed. About laser, I went with laser lights but can't say this is the reason to have a delay on mine...unfortunately the dealer said he doesn't have a reason for this second delay!

This will be my 4th X5 with third row. Have had 1 E70 30d and 2 F15 M50d.

I got 3 children and every other weekend we got a girl living with us placed by the social services. I use the extra seats quite often. The X7 M50d is too pricey unfortunately but the children isn't complaining about the space in 3rd row. They all want to sit there
