Winter Tire Sizes

I ran a square tire setup using 295/40/20 on my X5MC that I purchased from Tirerack last winter. Had no issues with these at all. From reading all the threads I could find I know pirelli makes winter tires in the OEM size.

This might be a dumb a question since I am not knowledgeable in tire sizing and variance but can I ran 275/35/22 and 315/30/22 with a 22 inch wheels ? The tire sizes mentioned are on the M50i/M60i but I know there is a slight difference when it comes to curb/gross weight etc...

The option for the 22in wheels is pirelli scorpion winter or pirelli scorpion winter 2.

Load index rate for the 275 is 104V.

Thanks in advance!

Curious why you would want to run winter tires on a staggered 22” wheel if you have a 20” square winter package. Narrower with more sidewall is better for winter. Did I miss something?

I understand that narrower with more sidewall is better for winter but I’m leaning towards 22s for the winter if I can. I live in the DC area that usually gets snows during winter but not as much as others up north or in Canada. There are a few users who live in those regions that are running a winter setup with 22s on X5 40i/50i and other G05 models.

I saved my winters from my 22 M50i (22 inch wheels) and place them on my X5MC just last month. Ride is good no problems. I’m in the Richmond VA area we don’t get the DC snow but the temps drop and it snows maybe a couple times during the winter.

That's good to hear. I would assume 275/35/22 and 315/30/22?

Another question about the winter tires - BMW said the bolt pattern doesn't match the m50i so you can't interchange; This seems so strange that they would change the bolt pattern. Anyone have any comments ? I want to keep my winters from my m50 and use for x5m (would be square setup worst case or I get 2 new for the front etc)

I'm getting almost the same installed on my '24 this weekend. I went with the M01 fronts since they were a bit less expensive (suspect the Merc fitment is more common than the Maserati, so cheaper due to volume...), but did the new Scorpion Winter 2 for the rear.

Someone above commented they saved their 22 M50i (22 inch wheels) and placed them on their X5MC. No issues so far.

My only concern with running the 275 tire up front instead of 295 is that the delta between the front and rear wheels the center diff would be seeing is different from stock. Not sure if there is any difference between the diffs but expect bmw to deny warranty if you ever have center diff issues. Right tires is the first thing they will check for.

if you just use tire rack and type x5m it will give u 20" as an option with much different tire widths than normal - they are usually reliable with what they spec out. Any comments ?

Can also check the manufactures’s website to see the diameters for each size offered to make sure you’re within whatever spec it needs to be.

BMW only shows two spec options and those are pretty much 21 square or 21/22 staggered formation. There's no way this is the only option again since places like tirerack and others I have phoned give 20 options. I don't think places like tire rack would be successful if they were recommending tires that are not adequate. Trying to play the devils advocate here. open to all comments

I purchased a “20 inch setup from Tirerack last year for my 22 X5MC.
I ordered
20X10 O.Z. SUPERTURISMO DAKAR MGS with 295/40R-20 MICHELIN X-ICE SNOW SUV XL

I had no issues at all.
