I’ve searched the forums about CarPlay map being available in the HUD, but wondering if there’s an option for the directions to appear in the instrument cluster like the BMW navigation does?

In iDrive 7, basic directions should appear in the cluster like they do in the HUD (Apple Maps only), depending on iDrive update level and iOS version. If iDrive 8, then the map should appear too.

Yes, you can put the CarPlay Maps display on the instrument cluster. At least, this is the case with ID8 on the 2024 X5.

Use the little "menu" button on the steering wheel to control what to display in the "Central display range" of the instrument cluster. One of the items is the nav map, and it will show the CarPlay Maps output. The center display behaves as usual -- you don't have to keep Maps open there.

In ID8 and 8.5 you can have Carplay Maps displayed in the instrument cluster if and only if you use Apple Maps for navigation.

In the HUD you will only see turn directions. You can also have the turn directions in the cluster as well.
