Break in period - Look what I found

So I was browsing the owners manual on the navi screen and this is what I found -

So I think that pretty much answers whether or not there is a break in period.

BTW This is on a M235i. Curious if 228i has the samething?

Hope this isnt a repost.

Right, just a good rule of thumb to abide by.

When I picked up the car they said that it didnt have a break in period because its not a true M car.

what it doesn't have it's a break-in 1200 maintenance... M cars have different viscosity fluids from factory so it requires service at 1200 miles

I was told by my delivery expert at BMW Welt that it's just something to abide by for non M cars but it's not something that BMW will hold against you if you don't abide by it. Not adhering to this warning will NOT void your warranty unless it's an M car. I was told since the M235i is a performance model it does not apply.

This is mostly a liability thing. If there's something wrong with the car, they figure it will surface in the first couple thousand km, and they don't want you to be doing 200kph on the autobahn when it happens. Basically it's "take it easy with the car till we're sure there aren't any major defects".

Not a big deal, I drove over 120mph within 200 miles when I pick up the car in Europe.

yeah it shows avg mpg just click the dc button on the left steering wheel column to rotate between the choices

Did you get coding to have current speed? I really wish the 2 series had a digital read out of mph. that is my only complaint. Any recommendations to get that done?

You should all at least NOT floor it unless the engine has warmed up. Flooring it before 1,200 mile guideline for breaking in is one thing, but flooring it whatever your mileage is on a cold motor is something completely different. It's like you're asking for problems down the road.

I made it up to 150mph during my ED last week. Car had about 500 miles on it. I didnt want to miss the opportunity to really drive her fast on the autobahn.

Ditto. . Being in Germany and driving slow didn't make sense to me.

I kept it limited to 120 and didn't floor it too hard for the first 200 miles and soon after that I was up in the 140 to 150 range regularly for the next 1000 miles in Germany.

life is too short to be wasted worrying about these nonsense. I went as fast as 140mph after 500 miles and drove like a normal person for the first 500 miles.

driving like a normal person is called "breaking-in" in BMW M235i driver's perspective ;-)
