Test drove F82 M4 and my humble NON TRACK impressions -:)

Well,
I did it for you guys -
But I am really thinking about getting the Yellow one if I can swap a lease mine -!!
Any takers? LOL Just kidding If i get it it will be for my wife because I can't imagine losing money for what seems to be a DOWNGRADE in the eyes of most people even the dealership - though it is more fun to drive IMHO don't shoot me!!

You wanted unbiased review ? Here it is!!

I wanted to drive it and come with a review to make all of you elated but the M4 is a beast too!! (Don't care a bit for M3 after thorough 2nd look)

Reason why I didn't post as part of RPiM5 and Vic55 thread is "I have a different take"

In a nutshell WOW WOW WOW
I am very impressed

I must say I LOVE IT PERIOD!
And yes if I were in the market and this car was available next to M5 I would definitely think to take it over M5 but just because of the price difference but if they were like 15k apart I won't but they are 30k apart!! It is a lot of money and you get A LOT SWEETER DEEPER THROATIER EXHAUST NOTE! !

After the test drive I showed the SA my car and he was really impressed with V12's coding - actually was rather amused and liked the Exhauste Meister too -

BMW cars will be an appreciating asset after this game and good investment - LOL
The German's goal keeper is crazy!!

1. HANDLING:
well I like how my M5 handle
and rarely feels like too big for me but this is tighter and more nimble for sure but more than 10%-15%.

2. STEERING:
I like M5 steering a tad more as more road feel no doubt but this EPS is miles better than the horrible EPS I had in my 2012 F10 550i.

3. EXHAUSTE:
Well, don't stone me because per dealership M4 sounds better than M3 and they confirmed noticeable difference especially after dialing SPORTS PLUS which obviously opens the valves - like Exhauste Meister for free !!
Sounds a lot better than my stock LCI non CP M5 and I made sure as I had a friend with me and he was stunned !! If I give my exhauste 5-6/10 with Exhauste Meister then the M4 today is at least 8/10 LOUDER DEEPER higher pitch (Can be a bad thing but I liked it!!) THROATIER ... I would just buy the car for exhauste!!!!!

4. Power:
Well I was asked not to push it after 6k RPM by Jordan the very nice SA at Hendricks BMW who if I get this car will be one of the main reasons why I do because he is knowledgeable about the car and seems an enthusiast himself which was fun.
This car to me though felt a little less powerful than my M5 and I pushed it till above 5k a few times but couldn't feel the rush of torque like I do with my M5 and that's my but butt Dyno but also my friend's enthusiast butt as a passenger too felt that M5 is a good bit more powerful with bigger lungs and doesn't get short winded as easily as M3 !! Now I wasn't able to see any triple digut speeds because I generally dont but actually that's where M5 outshines the M4 anyway so the fact that I felt M5 is stronger at such low speeds speaks a lot for the 560/501 HP/Tqu of the M5!!

5. Exterior:
That's subjective but looks more aggressive tha M5 and probably nicer overall and not much smaller UNLIKE THE M3 WHICH LOOKS SMALL!! But M4 has less class to it somehow and I don't know why I felt that way!!
CARBON FIBER roof is beautiful but for me a deal breaker I love my freedom - and sunroof is a must for me to enjoy a car...
B pillars are nice and not intrusive at all! But loved my E550 2010 MB Coupe PLILLARLESS design a lot more !!

6. Interiors:
M5 hands down... like M4 6-7/10 vs M5 9/10

7. Suspension:
Tight but not better than mine but car overall is more fun being so nimble and light to throw at corners.

8. Brakes :
Felt as good as M5

9. DCT Transmission! :
DCT as you know and couldn't tell any difference about the same but sweet transmission plus more nimble car equals more feel!!

10. Space:
Trunk is spacious (Relatively) and my SA was in the back seat behind my passenger friend and was very comfortable in the back !! And he is at least 5'8" !!

And these were my humble NON TRACK IMPRESSIONS of the new M4 !!

I was going to be on a waiting list (#8) if ordered today and probably before Christmas! !
And who knows what I can do or what happens before then -
I may be able to convince my sweeter half to get it for her !

I felt M3 looks were more aggressive but was black and with yellow CCBs too but I would never think about M3 instead of my M5 even if I don't lose a penny and do swap today !! But M4 I may think about it !

Least but not the least! !
You forget everything in the car that is less luxurious than M5 whike driving because of how much more fun it was to drive except for the cheap looking gauge cluster - But believe me guys M4 is more fun to drive than M5 !! Again I loved the exhauste !! I wish mine were like this stock and I don't think even RESONATORS DELETE will take it to that level! !

Now don't stone me !! You know I love my M5 but BMW M division did such a good job on this M4 and we have to admit it and please go test drive it but M4 not M3.

BTW In this car you don't need Exhauste Meister as putting car in Sports Plus mode while idling you will notice something GRAVE just took place in your hind - Valves Opened Meisterslessly!!

I have zero regrets!
Two different appeals and I believe 2 different fan bases too! They will have overlap like myself but I am 37 which is very close to midlife crisis - But won't feel that way!
But if you are in your forties I woukd definitely think M5 period !

My whole point is
You get more fun for much less money !! But less status no doubt as it is going to be too common which I care about when making a car purchase !
When I had E550 coupe 2010 was the only car in Charlotte the or at least didn't see it at all till a month or two after I got rid of it and same with M5 as there are a few around and I love the fact that it is a Unique car...
But talking fun!
M4 was more fun to drive with this exhauste and more nimble but I like my M5 more! ! So mixed feelings!!

My buds who roll w me on my country runs with their m3 want a m5. They say they can't keep up w the 5. In the curves a couple guys can keep up w me. But there is a car fir everyone. No m4 fir me. It's a downgrade to me. I'm spoiled w the luxury and massive torque.

Soooma thanks! I think yours and Vic's and Dave's review are more objective than others since you guys have (had) M5/M6 to compare, however as you said, yours has different perspectives!
I know you didn't have chance to push it to limit since you were not allowed to rev it, but did you feel "traction issue" ?

I have not driven this car yet but I feel due to less power and torque (however less weight) it must have better traction than M5/M6...
BTW I had my car software updated last week and since I have about 10K mile on clock and rear tires are less than %50, it has better traction now specially in MDM. with DSC OFF, I have full control on take off but still spinning...

I felt car wasn't that strong to spin tire that easily or annoyingly as M5 but again I didn't get the chance to hammer it but I was revving short of 6k like almost touching 6 more than once but rememebr there most people said M3/M4 shines! Like the car so much and proud of M division achievement and still will be in 50k range as a used car in a year!! What a sweet deal!! Usually you have to go 100k to get these amenities and power and brand ... Great deal but probably not now -

you are right but think this way: you are paying more than $1500 per month for a car that you don't like it's sound! you can pay $150 or so more and enjoy the car that it's sound satisfies you easy solution
