Drag racing against my friends Evo 9, needs tips.

A few questions to the experts.

Drag racing against my friends evo 9 (FBO, no tune) Wednesday.

I am FBO with JB4 (no meth)

1) What would be the ideal map for dragging?
2) Ideal rpm to launch at?
3) Should I turn traction completely off?

We are just racing for fun, to see our times. But it would be nice to have the better time

Also, it is a possibility I might put 100 oct in the car.

Yea turn traction off so it doesnt intervene, in terms of best launch, you should know your car better than any of us, but about 2k RPM sounds about right depending on tires and surface, just go out and do some test runs and see which method works better.

Another factor is your transmission. Methods would vary. 2-2.5k like igor ki stated is idea for m/t. I know a few auto guys that launch from 2nd gear at a higher RPM, but be careful not to hit the kick down.

Either way, take a few practice runs. Tires are also another factor. Lower you PSI a bit and heat them up before running to help you hook. Not sure what tires you're running, so around 36 PSI should be good.

Can't recommend which map to run since I'm not familar with JB4. I know it have shift lights, might want to set it at your happy point.

If you are FBO, it doesn't matter how you launch you will walk and evo. This race shouldn't even be close.

From what I understand, autotune map is probably the most ideal for dragging?

It has lower PSI in 1st and 2nd gear, and goes up to 16-18 in the rest.

When I mentioned PSI, I was referring to tire pressure, not boost. Someone with JB4 experience would have to help you out as far as the JB4 go.

Since he's not tuned you will pull him after 1st gear easily regardless if you are auto/manual. Quick slip if you are manual and 2nd gear light rev launch and you are fine without killing your transmission

What are you calling FBO on the EVO? And you can mod the EVO ECU code with no visible evidence. He might run 10s for all you know. Or you might crush him if he's actually close to stock and doesn't launch it hard.

depends on the length of the race,
if it is short, start with 1 gear
if it is longer, start with 2 gear,
if you dont have kickdown blocker, if you start with 2 gear, dont push down to the kickdown,
start with 2000-2300 RPM,
shift at 6200,
if you add some e85, do some 3rd gear pulls on map5,
or go with map2

*practice starts before the race*

I've heard that starting in 2nd gear and then as you get close to the rev limit for 2nd gear you should quickly switch into D and then in to DS/S so that it shifts for you would produce the best times. Is this true?

no
on WOT both D or S revs up to 7000,
but you should be shifting at 6000-6200
