Glass coating.

Alright Question my car detailer said a should get a glass coating on my car. Price $700 is this worth it. Keep in mind it's a lease. I am not even sure what a glass coating is. Thanks.

Thx.

Unless you plan on buying out your lease, just say no. Glass coating is a protective film applied to the vehicle.

I know some ppl on the forum do a cquartz treatment on their cars soon after purchasing but not sure how much it costs. It may cost less to do it elsewhere, but not sure.

Compare that to applying clear bra film to forward facing panels which costs in the region of $1500+

I am planning to have opticoat put on my car, which will be a lease. It is essentially a sealant and protective layer added to the paint and outside surface. Think of it as an additional layer of clear coat, which will help keep light scratches and swirls off the paint, and also makes it easier to maintain and clean.

I think it would look great on your mineral gray car, but not sure if it is worth the cost to you. I am not a detailer, and this will be my daily driver, so anything that helps it keep appearance easier would be nice.

I have also heard great things about cquartz, similar product, but maybe "glossier". Unfortunately, no installers in my area.

I'm going to get cquartz in a few weeks and got quoted 850. So at your price for opti-coat that tends to be a good deal. Though that is based on if he is an authorized dealer. If you like your car looking new and have that glossy look without having to constantly wax it isn't a bad idea. Though you'll have to decide since we don't know how long you plan to keep the Car.

Just an FYI, there is a GLASS coating called opti-glass and there's body/paint coating called opti-coat.

$700 seems like over kill personally. Opticoat is $70 for the tube of it. Take a Saturday, wash and clay bar your car and apply opti-coat yourself.

Here's the opti-coat:

and the opti-glass:

There is a difference between the Opti-Coat Pro that is done by detailers vs. the one that's $70 per tube. But yes, it's a significant price difference. One of the main issues is having a clean enclosed space to let it cure for many hours.

Snake Oil for your car?

Both products look like total BS to me.

Someone with a chemistry background can probably chime in...

They are not BS. I have opticoat on my mini and 330i and Cquartz UK on my F80. They work as advertised, but they need to be be applied properly. A wash and clay is not enough. At the very least, that needs to be followed with a light polish and a very thorough wipe down or two with a solvent like a 15% alcohol solution or Carpro Eraser. $700 is a decent price for it if you want to keep your car as clean as possible. Check YouTube for videos of how water beads off those coatings.

Edit: I did my cars myself FYI.

Sounds interesting, but for something like this there should be a lot more people using? If it works, that is.

Get some CQuartz UK edition and do it yourself. Easy as pie and lots of good videos to show you how. Your investment might be $100 for the coating, some Eraser, pads and microfibre towels.

I do every car I buy/lease mainly because it makes cleaning the car so much easier. Dirt doesn't stick to a coated car as much as a non coated one.

My car was a day old when I had it Opti Coated and the outcome is just Wow.. I didn't think a brand new shiny car could look any better but I was very wrong. It took the detailer 11.5hours in total to do the paint and glass and most of that was prep work getting all the little scratches out left from the initial detail at pre-delivery.

yup, more info n c.quartz here

What is the difference between CQuartz and CQuartz Finest?
The short answer is just about everything. There are many differences between CQuartz and CQ Finest. While both are glass coatings Finest offers greater gloss, dust and dirt resistance, fine swirl resistance, a slick to the touch feel, more resistance to water spots and the environment, and FINEST is offered only through Authorized Installers who have developed their skills and take the utmost pride in their work.

meh product has no use IMO

i would just have your car polished and sealed by a professional detailer every 1-2 years (or do it yourself if you have the time and tools).. and proper maintenance in between (e.g. two bucket method wash)

That looks awesome, and is my plan as well. Each have to decide if it is worth it for themselves, but I am guessing the price the OP was quoted includes prep and polish, and Opticoat pro and/or CQuartz Finest are Sealants. It's nanotech baby

And fwiw, most professional detailers now offer either OC or CQ or 22ple, or whatever as an upgrade service, and this is the largest growth area in the detail market, both because it is profitable for the detailers (500-1000k), and because it helps the car look better longer.

a few more as requested and certainly can not say enough good things about this product. $800 for 11.5 hours work and a life time warranty

www.detailedimage.com sells this stuff for under 100 bucks. Dealer adds are all about profit and rarely about real value.

This thread just got awesome

+1 for Modesta. They even have a high temperature application for wheels and brake calipers.

paint protection film should come with these cars nowadays. its only thing i have seen that actually protects the paint long term. a few microns of opticoat is not match for 7 mils worth of xpel bouncing rocks off it from every lifted pickup in this country.
