Quiet in the UK forum

I know I don't post very much, but I do come on a lot and read all of the interesting threads. This has to be one of the quietest times I have seen in the UK forums. Are you all playing with your new Christmas presents?

Hello, I'm here in between looking for a new cordless phone on t'internet.

Alot of people on the UK forum may be at work today visiting friends or at one of the many, many sales now on in all the shops. Or driving their cars, which sounds like a good idea

I'm sure everyone will be back with avengeance fairly soon!

Happy New Year BTW

Peter, a rival forum! They can't possibly be as nice as us lot. Which one is it.

Isn't anyone going for a blast in their cars then? I did yesterday, got the mpg down to 27 - worst yet.

You could all look at starting a model car collection to rival Carlos' - maybe not

Helen, I can't say, although I am still looking for a replacement 4x4, so have been "researching"! You must have tried very hard to get the MPG down so low! My 335d is in the garage covered up, its Land Rover weather at the moment!!

As for a 'hobby' like Carlos', I think I'll give it a miss for now

Peter, lol Land Rover weather, I know someone who would definately agree with you. Actually it's very mild, bit strange. Be interested to know what 4x4 you eventually decide upon.

Enthusiastic use of the paddles is guaranteed to get the mpg down. Also, I was told that since the re-map, if one 'plays' as it were, the mpg return will be slightly lower than before. The plus side is, it is actually slightly better during 'normal' driving. Back end gets very twitchy though now

Same here, I am always in the s**t with my Miswah, its just the depth that varies!

I am not interested in a remap, but would would love the opportunity to have a go at some 'unrestricted' driving to see what the car can do, thus far I have probably only just scratched the surface of the performance envelope. That runway of Mikems is a great idea!

I'm also bored. Our Fabia vRS has gone in for it's 10,000 mile service today (not long life oil). They have loaned me a new Fabia 1 1.2 3 cylinder engine. It has 70bhp and you really have to drive it to get anything out of it. But it really makes you think when you are stuck behind that low powered supermini what they are going through.

But I must admit it's kind of fun but not as much fun as dropping the vRS off this morning. The last 7 miles of B roads were probably the best drive I have had all year. It roles a bit for a hot hatch but the trade off it does not tramline and it's quick on a B road with it's turbo diesel.

Skoda get a lot of stick but they make some great cars these days, it is the vRS I was thinking off! There is a banana yellow Octavis vRS at work and it looks the business.

They are basically cheaper to buy VWs but most people won't buy because of the snob value. I have no issue and will be happy to buy the Skoda brand. The Fabia is a pocket rocket and does 45mpg on country road driving.

The Octavia vRS is the 200bhp Golf engine and in estate form is about £18,000 with a bit of spec and discount. The equivalent Audi is nearly £30,000 with a discount. It does make me think when I could have 2 and a nice holiday for the price of my BMW. The dealers are fantastic for customer service. We have had 3 fabias not a rattle, problem on any of them for 70,000 miles of motoring over 7 years.

Last fabia lost £3,300 for 2 yrs 9 months motoring and 25,000 miles and that was just selling it cash back to the dealer 2 months ago even with the new model out.

Skoda still come in for a fair share of stick as you say, but they really do make some cracking cars at unbelievable prices.

Four years ago when my little sister left University and was looking for her 1st car I got lumbered with the job of sorting it. So she ended up with a brand new Fabia 1.9TDi (100hp) on 0% finance and with the maintenance pack thrown in. The car itself was great, lovely tight turning circle, big enough to take on the morotway without feeling unstable or dwarved by the HGVs. Plus, if you came up against an A4 1.9TDi at the lights you knew that you could have him because of the weight difference. The only problems in four years of motoring were the failure of the lights on warning buzzer and the replacement of both headlamp bulbs. The instument binacle was replaced under warranty for the buzzer and the bulbs were replaced without charging anything for fitting. Top service that is up there with BMW.

The only fault with the dealer was that to have a courtsey car you had to be 25, so I had to take it in for service. Then you'd always have a 1.2 courtesy car. That tended to be a lesson in energy conservation.

Hi Helen.

Mrs Viv went out & fancied buying a new set of phones, so she got a BT Aqua twin set.

Cute little phones with a base station, 2 handsets with independent chargers & answerphone.
Lets you send & receive texts, so completely useless having a pair of them if you're Carlos.

Viv

I'm not bored at all.

I am unwinding with barely switching on anything that connects to the internet, and haven't been behind a wheel for a week now. Mobile switched off, slipping below the radar and just wantonly frittering away the days mastering the art of doing absolutely nothing (which is an art).

Chilling. Truely relaxing. That's what holidays are for

Hi Gibbo, couldn't agree with you more re. the Skoda. My Mum bought this year, a new Skoda Octavia elegance 2.0 TDi (the bigger bhp one). She test drove the standard diesel and it wasn't pokey enough for her. No problems whatsoever so far and I shared driving it to France and back in September. Excellent mpg return and quite a relaxed cruiser TBH. The hatch area is cavernous. As you say it's basically a VW with a cheaper price tag.

Hi Viv,

I looked at that particular twin set, but in the end fell for this one:

Attachment 119609

Just about to set it all up and work out the SMS etc. Yeah, reckon your right about Carlos having them. He's kept quiet about that recently - all forgotten or ostrich syndrome.

Glad to see your pushing the boat out on luxuries this Xmas Carlos.

Guess the M3 worked out a tad more expensive then expected, just as well you left the sunroof off the spec, or you would have had to miss out on the butwah
