M HUD - Am I doing something wrong?
I put my M HUD on, and all I'm getting is the tach, mph and what gear I'm in. Is this all that's suppose to be there. Also, the Tach doesn't move up or down it just lights up and shows the one green line and two red. (Showing me that the car is warm) I must be doing something wrong, if this is all you get than what's the point? Just leave it on regular HUD.

Are you wearing sunglasses?
You should be able to see the RPMs going up and down in light gray. Haven't gotten to yellow or red yet, I assume they will be color specific once hit. I'll let you know after my 1200 mile service.

Seriously, sunglasses or seating position will effect the MHUD visual.

I saw in another thread someone mention that the rpm meter only hits at high revs and only shows for about 500rpm... if you are still breaking in you may not see it. I havent seen mine yet I'm still under 1k.

Polarized glasses will definitely fade the HUD view.
If your car is in Sport+ across the board, the RPM is the default sport view. If you adjust settings to comfort or sport, you will see MPH, Speed limit data, and gear selection as well, but no RPM's. Comfort view also allows you to see Nav directions, song selection, etc.. You can adjust the height and size of the HUD view via iDrive. Play around with it, its fun.

Damasconian, thanks that makes sense, I'm still breaking in so no sport + for everything until 1200 miles. Your right I will play around with it and see how it changes.

The bars above the yellow/red line will only light up when you are within 500-700 rpm of redline. They only lid up twice for me so far, so I don't hit redline alot. lol Cheers and enjoy your car |

In iDrive you can turn on the MHUD and play with it - once you get to 6500-7000 RPM you will the grey bar change colors - saw it yesterday when I smoked an ISF

Excellent! Sometimes I wonder why they even try?

Made me laugh - lots of little boys want to play every day - thankfully all broken in and fun to drive. Took on a GT3 earlier in the week and held my own but no chance

I like MHUD visually but in terms of actually being useful --- doesn't do much for me. I find that it's harder for me to shift my focus from off in the distance (particularly when I'm hauling ass) to focusing on the windshield which is so close. I actually still prefer to quickly look down at the gauge b/c I can quickly read the info that I need (speed/rpms/gears) vs. having to concentrate/focus super hard to see that on the M-Hud. Maybe it's just me.
I also find it super annoying when I switch from M-Hud to regular Hud and the songs don't show up between the gauges like I'm used to and only show up on the HUD/windshield. |

Rpm stays grey in mine but the boxes above the revs light up in colour when you are getting into prime shift territory, mines manual so I can get them lit very easily.
I have speed limit info too so I get the speed limit sign in mine too next to the digital speedo. |

Plus the nav screen split-screen. YMMV, but I get all the info I want from the dash display(s) and prefer the M HUD always. |

And it saved me while driving around Europe. I've mentioned this before, but since all US bound M cars have only MPH and not KPH readouts, the HUD cameras read the limit signs in KPH but displayed in MPH in the HUD. Saved me more than a few times. I understand why you may not like it, and thankfully BMW allows you to turn it off. Which is the first thing I did with the auto stop/start button.

Its weird BMW didn't just put a KPH readout within the MPH speedometer. Feels like every car manufacturer does that.
