Noisy Rear Brakes

Hi All,

I've got a 2014 228i M Sport - non M brakes. As of yesterday my rear brakes started screeching just as I come to a stop. I've got about 2,000 miles on the car. Doesn't seem to do it in reverse.

Any ideas?

Same thing with my 2014 228 Msport, Non M brakes. Not sure if front or rear brakes though. It comes and goes , Last week for a couple of days it was squealing, now, no squeal at all . 5600 Miles on mine and its happened at random times ever since i've owned the car. Maybe some kind of contamination on rotor surface that goes away with use ?????

Do you notice if yours clunk as well? My fronts clunk when going into reverse after driving forwards. I've read it's the pads moving and banging into the housing....somewhat normal and nothing to worry about is the conclusion I read...but the noise is annoying.

Yes, my E90 does this. It is due to the floating caliper design. Kind of like a click sound, when direction changing. Thought it was a problem at first as well. Just part of the design.

I noticed over the past few weeks/month that my brakes squeak just as I come to a stop as well. I think I'm around 5500 miles. It sounds like just my fronts to me, but I haven't properly investigated as I don't really mind it.

Mine didn't make any noise on my commute today.

Right there with you buddy, 2014 228i M Sport with the non-M brakes, 2200 miles. They squeal enough to draw looks from people that I'm stuck in traffic with and my girlfriend can hear me before I even pull onto our street. Set up a service appointment for December 5th but after reading the forums, I think I might try a few good 60-0's to wear them in a little better. If anyone hears anything I'd love to know!

Def temp related. From 16 degrees the other day when it was squealing horribly to today's balmy 60, totally no squeal at all

Mine is intermittent even at temps below 30. Didn't make a peep today.

there is a saying...

"Germans don't care if their brakes squeal as long as they work,
Americans don't care if their brakes work as long as they don't squeal..."
