How to check windshield wiper fluid level?

How do you know how much windshield wiper fluid you have left? I can't see the actual reservoir in the engine compartment. So how do I know how much to add? I took a guess and added about 1/4 of a new bottle of low temperature anti-icing fluid and it seemed to take it all...

I add it slowly until it just starts to cover the black plastic "bubbles" (or whatever you want to call them) in the fill hose.

There's no other way to tell unless you want to wait until the low fluid sensor is triggered and the car complains about it.

Side note, when the warning light is on be ready to put a lot of washer fluid in. I think the washer bottle must hold over a gallon.
