20" Tire Size Question

Just got a set of wheels for the car and had a tire size question. The wheels are: Front - 20X9 with offset of 35; Rear - 20x10.5 with offset of 42. What size tires should I put on them? I was thinking 255/30/20 and 285/25/20, but am not sure. I have a 2009 E92 335i with stock sport suspension. I do not want the stretched tire look but am willing to roll the rear fenders if it becomes necessary.

your offset are too conservative for e92 with that wide of a wheel, particularly the front, you are most likely hitting the front strut with a et35 9inch wide wheel. 5mm space is needed (so you end up with a et30 front wheel), and even then 20" wheels might make things a bit tight in there.

I can also guarantee you that 255/30/20 will not fit the front, since it is way too tall of a tire comparing to stock tire size (going to rub on the inner fender liners every time you turn the steering wheel).

your best bet is to comparing the rolling diameter of stock tires and the ones you want to get in 20", and you wouldn't want to be more than +/- 0.5" from the stock size. Also, you gonna need to run some camber plates for 255 size tires. You can't roll the E92 front fender, they are plastic, and you will most likely crack them if you are not careful with your tire choise.

Thanks for the feedback. What size tire would you recommend for the front, then? I know I can't roll the fronts, and a little stretch on the tire may be necessary.

Been doing some looking around. Will a 245/30/20 tire work on the front wheels?

As I said, compare the rolling diameter to stock 19, 18 inch tire size. I ran 245/35/19 for a while, it worked, but rubbed on the front liner when steering wheel is at full locks. I suspect you will have the same problem if not worse.

Stock front tire size was 225/40/18. Comparing to a 245/30/20 the new tire will be 0.7" taller (a 2.8% difference) and 0.79" wider (a 8.9% difference).

Stock rear tire size was 255/35/18. Comparing to a 285/25/20 the new tire size will be 0.58" taller (a 2.3% difference) and 1.18" wider (an 11.8% difference).

This seems like it should work, but I'm open to hearing what anyone with 20" wheels run, and what your offsets are.

I'm sorry but this is not accurate. You can run a 20x9(+35) with a 245/30/20 and not rub!!! How do I know...I've done it... and I was lowered. With those specs you can do 245/30/20 and a 285/25/20 and you will be within recommended specs...This is the specs that any of the vendors will sale a e92 non-m. I never ran a 285/25, I did a 275/30. Yes it is a little taller but it gave me more rubber

Just because it works for you doesnt mean it will work for the OP. If he has a coilover or planning to geting one (20" will look silly on stock ride height I am sure), he will need all the clearance he can get to clear the strut/spring perch. There are plenty of threads that explain this problem with strut clearance on non-M e9x.

Great to know it will work from someone who has run it. How stretched was the 275/30 on the 10.5" wheel?

I'm also on the stock sport suspension and will likely stay on that unless the wheels look silly without a little bit of a drop, but even then, I won't be going with a coilover setup and will probably just go with a lowering spring.
