Spontaneous wheel bearing/transfer case failure?
Car: 2008 335xi 6mt, sport package, premium package, high speed limiter.
Modifications: Steering wheel, shifter (aka nothing) Tires: Stock run-flats on stock rims Brakes: Plenty of life left Problem: Parked the car outside for the first time last night (I usually park in our garage); when I went to put my car in the garage this morning I heard a LOUD grinding noise coming from the front end. Took the car for a drive to see if it would go away, no such luck. So here are the symptoms. LOUD catching noise when the car is moved very slowly, almost sounds like metal popping. This is independent of brake application, gear, engine speed, clutch position. When moving, car rides arrow straight and has no vibrations through steering wheel. VERY LOUD speed dependent humming noise. Does not matter which gear I am in, clutch in or out, steering angle does not seem to make a difference, although when one side is weighted it seems to lessen the noise, however it doesn't seem to matter which side. Noise seems to be getting worse and worse as the car is driven. I put the car into the garage and took a brief look at the suspension/drivetrain components. No visible leaks, tears in any dust boots, ect. Any suggestions would be very helpful! Attached video is long, but runs through all different scenarios. Hope this is helpful |
