Radio doesn't work on cold mornings

Anyone else have this happen?

On really cold mornings (like -15C and lower) my radio doesn't produce sound. The song titles show up on the screen which tells me it's receiving a signal, but no sound. It's like the amplifier is shut off. It will often work when I leave work at the end of the day, maybe because the car warms up in the sun.

My battery was replaced by a dealer less than a year ago, car starts fine. Happened last winter too with the old battery. Makes for an awfully quiet ride to work. lol

Any ideas?

The cold contracts the plastic or the metal, and that results in a lost contact somewhere (either one of the plugs at the back of the unit, or worse, the board itself contracts and disconnects some components.

You can try to wiggle the cabling behind the unit, and the cabling in the trunk to the Logic 7 unit and see if that helps. If not, you are probably going to need a replacement unit (and professional help to assess which unit is defective).

That sounds plausible - I think it's too cold out this week for me to even take a look at it, but if it warms up I'll try checking out the cables.

For now I guess I'll just have to be alone with my thoughts on my drive to work... ugh. lol

I had the same issue the second winter I had my car; when the temp dropped to about OF; there was no sound.

Luckily it was still under warranty and the radio was replaced. The dealership informed me that this wasn't the first time they had seen this issue.

Interesting that it's not just me.

It's funny... this morning was much colder (-20C berfore windchill) and it worked fine. It certainly only happens when it's really, really cold though.
