BIMMERPOST NEWS
BMW M GmbH will be launching a production model featuring OLED technology in the near future
57
COMMENTS

In a somewhat cryptic facebook post, BMW M says a production car will be coming in the 'near future' with OLED. We have to assume it will be the next M car in the pipeline, that really suggests either the upcoming M2 or a lighting facelift for the F80/F82 M3/M4. You can see the Concept M4 wearing this technology on our thread from CES

What do you think?

M3/4 is the "benchmark M" I highly doubt this technology would go in the baby M2.
Then again, the new M5 would be based on the new flexible chassis architecture ("35up") so maybe it will lead the the geological innovation which would also include the new OLEDs.

Did they say the M2 would be ready this year? Can't remember. I'm calling the 7 series will get this first.

Never in the history of car buying have I ever purchased a car based on overpriced laser/led lights or whatever. It's nice to have LED angel eyes and HIDs. That's about it, not a deal breaker because you can mod that. Don't know why folks are amped up about headlights and bs like this.

Hey BMW, how bout fix every injector issue, hpfp issue, trim peeling issue, or even put the "BMW" feel back into all your cars before acting like Audi and trying to make nice looking headlights without worrying about the rest of the important details first!

It's going to be on a new model. I would be absolutely shocked if they put this into an existing/LCI model - makes no sense. Something relatively significant deserves/should be introduced on a new model, not something that has already been on market for a couple years.

Agree. Unfortunately at this point BMW is lost in all this technology hype and will never regain their former selves, I'm afraid. They're chasing gadget freaks anymore, not real drivers, if there are any left. They don't worry about people who care about durability- they want you to lease a new one every few years. Think "smartphone on wheels."

My speculative vote is that this may very well be slated for the F8X due to the impending Audi B9. Considering the A4/A5 S4/S5 and RS cars are competitors and gaining market share. My guess is that the external style of these Audi cars are going to add enough change to drive BMW to release these tail lights very soon.

Lights and their corresponding technology and style, like it or not, create desire. And desire equates to sales and relevance. And no cars are more important than the 3 (4) series to BMW.

Yep. M4 GTS. There is no other M car scheduled to debut in the next 18 months. M2 doesn't count, as it will not be premium/expensive enough or justify the cost/tech/marketing campaign.
