Problems after major repairs
Got all these repairs done at the same time rear main seal, oil pan gasket, valve cover gasket, aluminum head bolts and spark plugs. Car drives good. an hour later service engine soon light comes on. get it checked at auto zone and got these 2 codes p0597, p0056. I was wondering if those repairs have anything to do with the codes.
thanks Last edited by mazez; 01-14-2015 at 12:59 PM.. |

P0056 Heated Oxygen Sensor
P0597 Thermostat Heater Control Circuit Open These could be related if they were damaged or not installed correctly during your repairs. Heated O2 sensor is after the cat. Tstat heater is the Tstat itself. Have you replaced your water pump or tstat as of yet? DN |

Well you do have a tstat code.
Also as preventative maintenance....replace the water pump and tstat. Also....go to someone with a BMW diagnostic tool to get the codes in your car. Then you get to see codes that most code readers don't pick up. Without proper code reader, you will be guessing. $15 cable from eBay and download and install diagnostic program on your laptop. This is a great investment to have. DN |

Ebay item number: 381105593326
Or 321511254842 this one is USA based. Then look up BMW logger....the free version can do the following. Register new battery. Clear all DME codes... And Only look up DME codes. Basically engine codes only. Not lighting or any other codes. If you want full diagnostic then my recommendation is BMW DIS. Older but still works. Download it from your favorite torrent. It's a bitch to install.....but well worth the trouble. DN |
