Low Idle and Stall
Hi, I have had my 2006 330xi since May. I have had several issues (to be expected with any car), but all have been solved and fixed. But I am at a complete stand still with this issue.
For the past 2 months now i have been driving without my MAF sensor being hooked up. I replaced my intake with a AFE Cold Air Intake, possibly while doing it i damaged the sensor, so i bought a brand new OEM sensor hoping to solve the issue, but it still persists (i have already tried disconnecting battery for 30min to let ECU reset). So i have given up on that issue and am just driving on default fuel. About a month ago i had a ignition coil go out. So i replaced that one coil as well as had them replace all 6 plugs (the ones in it before were autozone cheapies and were getting old. Ever since i got the car back i have had low idling at around 600 rpm with a slight trimmer (nothing extreme like when you have a bad MAF sensor or a bad coil). This low idle has occurred since i disconnected the MAF a few months backm, but since i had the coil and plugs replaced it will drop to as low as 200~300 rpm when breaking or turning and has stalled on me in intersections before. Now this is dangerous to me and others because power steering will nearly go out when turning and stalling in an intersection is just not good. So i would like to get this straightened out before someone gets hurt. I was thinking of replacing the wiring for the MAF sensor to see if getting the MAF issue resolved will also solve this issue. What has been replaced?: Car is at 127,000 miles. Water Pump: 115,000 Starter: 120,000 A few hoses: 120,000 Cold Air intake: 117,000 Ignition Coil: 125,000 Spark Plugs: 125,000 I bought and tried a new MAF sensor at around 121,000, car went bad about a week after getting it back from the dealer for the replaced starter. If anyone needs any more info let me know, i can also pull codes as well if anyone would like those. Thank You, Andy Last edited by BMW_ANTHONY; 01-21-2015 at 11:53 AM.. |

Immediately I thought Vanos but reading codes would be a more direct approach.

Alright, I will get those codes tonight. Should I plug my MAF sensor back in and then pull the codes or just leave it unplugged?

Alright I have the codes:
2F6C: Exhaust fumeflap, input signal (I did this months ago by unplugging the wire, just havnt gotten around to plugging it back in). 2A2F: mixture control (No idea) 2A2E: mixture control 2 (No idea) 2D0F: Air Mass Meter, Signal or Air Flow Sensor (Guessing this is my unplugged MAF Sensor). 2F08: Intake Air Temp or Intake Air Temp -Signal (Still the MAF I believe). 2F09: Intake Air Sensor Plausibility (Still MAF). 2D5A: Control motor torque limitation (No idea) I will most likely plug the MAF Sensor back in and run the codes to see what i get, maybe all of those MAF related errors will go away? I have no idea. |

Anyone have any suggestion on my plan of action? I can clean my solenoids and vanos sensors and check to see if i have a clogged injector (read these on another form, but it turns out he had a bad hose or something)

Anyone? I just don't want to spend $300 for two new solenoids if that is not the issue? Will i always get codes about the solenoids if they are bad? I called the dealership to ask about updating my ecu, maybe that would work?

I say clear the codes. Plug the sensor back in and then check the codes again. Then again, since you had changed the intake, where is this sensor now mounted.

NEW ERROR CODES AFTER 10 MINUTES OF DRIVING: 2D06 Air Mass System That is the main error code that popped up. I went ahead and disconnected the MAF sensor because of how unstable it is with it plugged in, i will drive tomorrow (30 miles) and then run the codes and see what pops up. Mean while. Anyone have more suggestions or thoughts? Its a forums so dont be afraid to speak up . |

I have talked with an indy shop and they seem to think it is the Eccentric Shaft Sensor that has cracked and is now oil filled. I went and took a look at the sensor and i see a slight amount of oil around the side and maybe just a little on the plugs, could this be the problem?

I do believe i found the issue. Their is oil build up in the Eccentric Shaft Sensor. When i take it in i will confirm that and also have it checked for any vacuum leaks.

Would anyone know, would my oil filled eccentric shaft sensor cause my exhaust system to be quieter and a whiny noise to come from the engine bay? I noticed a few days ago that my exhaust sound is making a lot less noise (i have a muffler delete so it is decently loud), it just seems quieter (almost silent) at lower rpm, and higher pitched with a whiny noise coming from the engine bay. Is it the sensor or another issue? And could the whiny noise always have been there, just not as noticeable because my exhaust was toning it out?

Here is a new video i took last night. If you watch my stalling video you can hear how loud my exhaust is outside. This video was shot in a garage with the door half shut, you should def hear a lot more than what their is. Notice at like 1k rpm the exhaust sound is almost silent. Anyone with any ideas? |
