Coolant light issue! Help!
It just recently started with that issue.
I have 49k miles on my car 2011 335i and 2 days ago I noticed the light came on, yesterday morning I bought a coolant 50/50 and added some Into the car, the light went away, last night the light came on again and added coolant this morning again, well the same thing just happened and I called the dealership and they don't have any opening until the 21st =\ Anyone with issues similar to mine ?? |

Mine started doing it in spells. Low light would come on I would fill it, days later it would come back on. Fill then it would stay off for a few weeks and come back on. Then my water pump started to go.
If the motor isn't cold when you fill I noticed the light comes back on sooner. |

Start looking for a leak.
Carry a water/coolant with you everywhere until you find it.

Same things happening to my 08' right now..
Got low coolant indicator on the dash, fill 50/50 mix OE BMW coolant and distilled water/bled the system correctly (I've done it before). Light goes off all is good for about 2 days, then the light comes back on did the same thing again.. light just came back on today and almost no coolant in the reservoir for the 3rd time.. no obvious leaks @ home so I'm assuming it's leaking at other places (work/store) after its warmed up and at operating temp. I've done some research and it appears that it could be the expansion tank as they are known to crack.. Also, a leaking VCG (Valve Cover Gasket) has a little to do with coolant issues too believe it or not (which im sure mine needs to be replaced... So, I'm taking mine to the dealership tomorrow to get an oil change (usually do it on my own with my cars, but since these issues have arisen ill have them do their check) and have them look at the entire car and give me a print out of what all is wrong with it and ill take it home to see what I need to do.. DIY time lol On an unrelated note, maybe they'll find something wrong with my HPFP and replace that as well before the freakn extension is up as im still on my original HPFP and Turbo's LMAO I'm going to at least give them all of the symptoms of a failing HPFP and wastegate rattle so they'll at least check it all out. Maybe ill get lucky and its all bad. HAHA 08' 335i 6mt @ 74.9k on the ODO HPFP 10yrs/120k Turbo's 8yrs/82k So you can see my situation here lol

I once had a leak but was obvious. The vent plug next to the exp tank broke and was leaking. Had to get a new one. Water pump original?

Ill look over the entire expansion tank as soon as I get home. Yes, unless the previous owner got it done outside of BMW.. Not sure but could also be an issue..

Have them look around the whole circuit, and squeeze/check/pull gently on everything. I had a leak recently from the plastic "straw" that runs over the radiator (under the intake) -- there were no obvious signs of leaking (drips, residue, etc.), except that the reservoir kept emptying through the week. Oddly enough, I only lost coolant during my day-to-day commuting (also in hot sunny Florida) but lost none during a 2000mi roadtrip up to the frozen north.
BTW, since I'm at 140k miles and out of warranty, I replace the cracked "straw" with some 3/8" aluminum tubing from ACE Hardware (+2 small hose clamps). Hopefully that fixed it!

BMW SA said my oil filter housing is leaking oil onto a plastic piece of the coolant pump and that the coolant pump needs to be replaced as well as the OFH. $2040 total for both.
Is this normal? I think I'll have them replace the coolant pump but not the OFH and just DIY that myself. Could just need a gasket IMO. Thoughts ?

The oil filter housing has a gasket that has to be the BMW OEM to ensure the proper seal. I would just check that first, for the poster that has the leaky filter housing. That problem could be resolved with a simple oil change lol.

The dealer fixed everything, but now I have another issue, it seems like every time I take the car some new comes out!
I was driving with the ac on last week, and it seemed like the ac was consuming the power of the vehicle, kept driving for few blocks and at the stop light the car died, I drove the car without the ac on and it seemed fine ... BMW's are a little too complicated 😑😑 |
