Plano Wealth

Ok, so I have been travelling to Plano for the past couple of weeks for work and my team and I have grown fond of the restaurant selection and atmosphere around the Legacy Park area. I recognize Plano has a disproportionate amount of big name HQ in the city but eating dinner in Legacy Park is just insane in terms of expensive cars.

Last night, we ate at Nicola's, outside near the front door. I saw 2 F430s, a 458 spyder, McLaren P1, a couple Porsches, a Rolls, Jaguar XJL R, Audi RS7, and bunch of nicer BMWs, Lexus, and Audis. All of this was in about a 2 hour timeframe.

The night before that, I saw a Stingray Z06, new Viper, and a Bentley GT all parked outside Nicola's (we were eating at Sambuca 360). I also saw an F82, a Gallardo, and a bunch of other really nice rides.

What is going on here? The amount of wealth here is insane for a city with around 300k people. Even in the heart of Chicago in what we call the 'Viagra Triangle' we don't see this at this magnitude.

My house is about a block away from The Shops at Legacy and what you say is certainly true. The car culture/money here is interesting. As you note, it's a lot of HQ employees (my street name is literally Headquarters Dr). Additionally, many including myself are transplants. Moved here by their companies from other states where the cost of living was much higher. Couple good incomes with a dramatic reduction in the cost of living (leading to greater disposable income) and you end up with lots of "walking around money" in the area. I know that was certainly the case for me coming from San Francisco about three years ago. If you ever have the chance travel here the 1st Saturday of any month and attend the the Cars and Coffee about a mile south of The Shops. At the last event a P1, 918, and LaFerrari all made an appearance; all customer cars.

I can believe it. I'm at Sambuca 360 right now and looking at the cars again haha.

I just drove through the Shops with my M3 about a half hour ago (leaving the Ginger Man). You just missed me! A convertible M4 was over there at the time too; Sakhir Orange.

Small world. I was just in Jaspers so couldn't see outside. Now out on the patio at 360 for drinks. What color is your car? I'll keep a lookout in the coming weeks.

You need to take a drive around HP/UP area on the weekends. Sunday morning you can see some nice vintage Ferrari's, tons of Bentleys, Mclaren'ss and Lambos.
Porsche, BMW and Mercedes are your normal everyday cars that you see high school prep kids driving around for the most part. I parked next to a nice 918 white at breakfast the other morning in my E30 M.

Wow, you definitely don't see those kinds of cars rolling around the Midwest. I am obviously a car guy and love seeing everything from old classics to new exotics driving around each day.

I have been traveling to Plano M-Th every week for awhile now and before Plano was Fort Worth. I love it here and actually got around to talking to my fiance about relocating my job in the DFW area. Lots of jobs, very affordable housing, great weather (way better than 8 month winters), and friendly people... what's not to love?

Any other notable suburbs I should take into consideration? I like McKinney, Plano and Irving so far haha.

I think you would love it here! I don't have much experience with the suburbs as I live in Dallas (Preston Hollow). I would try to find an area that is close to your work, to avoid traffic or live in an area where you would be going away from traffic.

I know you can get a lot of house in Frisco, McKinney, Allen, Plano areas and the schools are pretty good. Main reason I decided against those areas was the land that comes with the house is usually very small. There seems to be a ton of zero lot developments that Im just not fond of. Also, I travel quite a bit for work so getting to the airports can be a journey if you hit it at the wrong time of day.

Cars & Coffee is this weekend if any posters in this thread will be in town. I'll be there along with my good friend who just picked up his McLaren 650S this week. It's supposed to be nice and sunny so some excellent cars will likely be there. It would be nice to have the LaFerrari and 918 there again but I'm really hoping a P1 shows up.

There is a lot of wealth in this area, but a whole lot of "$30,000 millionaires" hang out at the shops of legacy!

I suppose there's a $30k a year millionaire contingent in the Shops, but I imagine that's true of anywhere like this. Considering the number of truly expensive cars in the area (those the average person couldn't afford regardless of his or her desire to live outside their means) there's obviously some real wealth around as well. As I mentioned in an earlier post, I think this is largely because of the large transplant population coupled with comparatively low cost of living. The high number of HQs and corporate locations with executive staff doesn't hurt.

I really miss west plano -- real estate is so cheap in Texas that it really leaves the opportunity to splurge if you so choose. My place in plano was 7x less than what I pay now for something half the size, to put things into perspective.

Uptown is the definitely the $30k Millionaire strip, I think they were actually going to create a reality show in Dallas down there about that. There is a lot of transplants and executive money in DFW along with the weather you just see the cars around a lot more just like Miami.

C&C looks like perfect weather this weekend, I'll be there with the NTBC club with my BSM M4, come by and say hi...

I will be staying the weekend in Plano here pretty soon and flying in my girlfriend. Since she has never been to Texas, I am going to get her accustomed to what is to come when we move down there, ha. I will definitely try to make C&C and let you guys know.

Good turnout at C&C. Two P1s, two 918s, and a Veyron along with the usual gaggle of Ferraris and Lamborghinis. I parked in the bimmer section and spotted some other M3/4s but didn't run in to any owners.

I showed up and the young guy at the gate said lot was full, sad cause there was plenty of spaces I could clearly see. Oh well, guess I need to make it up earlier if I want a spot.

I got what seemed to be the last spot in the BMW section and I arrived at 6:30am. I guess I'll shoot to arrive at 6am to play it safe next month.

On the subject of The Shops, here's the P1 that was parked out front when I was getting brunch with my wife. Beautiful in person and, much like an LMP car, surprisingly small. The interior seems like it's 3/4 the size of my friend's 650S which already seems pretty compact.

Haha, that's Plano for ya. I'm not too far from the shops and I occasionally drop by Gordon Biersch for a nice brew. Pretty upscale place and it makes my M4 just look like just another part of the crowd, haha.

I didn't realize that we had such a decent sized group in the area. I live in West Plano, moved back from the Midwest, specifically due to real estate and potential growth/wealth in this area. 75093 was (is?) ranked just behind 90210 in terms of household income. This thread describes exactly what's going on in the area. I've been back and owned a home here - which was recently sold - for 5 years now. The amount of equity I generated was pretty crazy given the rest of the country. I am now moving to Stonebrook/Tollway, and as many know, is where Jerry Jones owns all of the real estate and currently constructing the "billion dollar mile". Any real estate investment in West Plano and the surrounding area is an intelligent one.

Why don't we all grab a coffee or drink soon?

Lane

I'm down for a beverage any time you are. On the subject of equity, my home off of Headquarters has appreciated nearly 70% in just three years. The boom in this area has been unreal since my move from California.
