First Dealer Oil Change Mileage

My car is at 9000 miles, and car says service due in like 2700 Miles. Do i have to wait until it actually hits that mileage or will they actually take the car in for a change prior to that interval?

If you want it for free based on iDrive, it has to be within 1k miles of what the computer says

I'm getting my engine oil/filter and differential fluid changed now, at 1400 miles, at my expense. Moving forward, no more than 7K between changes. But I'm keeping this ride for the long haul. If BMW pays for an oil change every now and again, great. But I've got a good independent shop near me, so that helps.

ya it might take 11k or 12k depending on how you drive...
I recommend you to to one yourself at 6k and then get the free one at 12k

You can get a DIY kit for $65 or so shipped

Yes thanks, thats what I was looking for 1k or less. I purposely have not done an oil change yet because I'm going to get an oil test kit and grab a sample to see how the oil really looks.

I've run full synthetics in other cars up to 10k with no issues. The stuff is like gold compared to regular dino oil.

Yes the 3,000 to 6,000 mile oil change is a myth for cars with synthetic oil. It is a carry over from the dinosaur oil days.

Weird. I'm at 7,900 and it says I need to change my oil.
Oil level is perfect, never moved since I got the car.

What are the different oil level messages that appear on the dash?
My car say's 'oil level O.K.' ( or something like that )
Is there a message that reads 'Perfect'

There never was a 1,200 mile break in, that's for true M cars not M Performance.
That's for true high performance engines and we have a basic N55.

The engines are broken in at the factory. I would imagine they drain and refill at this time. Only the real M-Perf engines have an initial break-in, tighter tolerances?

It's very safe for full synthetic oil to be run up to 12,000 miles for a daily driver.. Heck there are great extended drain synthetics that work up to 15,000 miles, Mobile 1 Extended Performance / Castrol Edge Extended Performance. You get what you pay for in terms of oil, and I believe BMW is using these extended drains as well.

Also I called dealer and they confirmed 1k miles. I have to bring the car next week to get a wheel looked at for pothole damage. There is a vibration that started after hitting a deep pothole that went to china. They said they should be able to do the oil change early

When I rebuild or install a new engine I will typically use a standard oil for the first 500 miles and change it. Then go to 1500-2000 miles and change to the oil I plan to use for the life of the vehicle and on to the normal oil change schedule which is typically 7000-10000 miles for full synthetic. For the new cars I typically change the oil at around 2000 for the first oil change regardless of what type of oil was used when built. Was supposed to do the oil on the car this weekend if for not being ill. 60 something dollars for oil and filter delivered to my door.

Two other things that can get your oil change moved, production date vs purchase date. My dealer said since my car was produced in April but not delivered until May I could get it in April. This would be especially true if a car sat on the lot for 6-10 weeks. On my X1 they said anytime during the month I purchased it, bought it August 25 and they said I could bring it in August 1. I know these aren't totally consistent answers but the dealer has some leeway as to what date to use.

The cbs date is the production date, not when the car is delivered. So if it was produced in March you will get a oil change in March regardless if it was delivered in september

Correct answer. I had a December build and my car wanted an oil change in December. Delivery date was March.

Blackstone Labs oil test kit came today, and I'm getting close about 2,500 miles left (they mail it for free, you just pay $25 to analyze).. I'm going to wait until about 1k and schedule the appointment. Test will be indicative of the remaining oil life left, and any other discovered impurities in the oil (eg. metal).

Either you have tremendous willpower or you've been incarcerated this year.

or your like my dad and you leave the car in the garage except when it's just sunny, no rain, and drive it 10 miles a weekend.
