Nitrogen in your tires?

Has anyone filled their RFT's with Nitrogen? Comments?

I just got a mailer from my dealership offering a "special." 50% off a Nitrogen fill w/ the purchase of an alignment. Regular price? $459...Sale price....$359

What a deal eh??

WHAT????? Nitro-fill should be ~ $20-$30 or so? That's what I've seen at some local GoodYear shops. Unless you NEED an alignment, I'd say skip that b.s. btw -- if you have an Acura or an MB, you can just go to your dealer and get your car's tires filled with Nitrogen for free!!! My MB dealership does it for FREE.

My tires are only 79% filled with nitrogen using a less expensive gas called AIR.

Do a bit of research and you will see that nitrogen fill is superior (better) than plain old air.

I have nitrogen in the tires,

The tires last much longer, and the ride is A LOT better...(even though its good with just air)

It cost me 32.95 to fill all 4....so that sounds like a rip to me!

Costco tire guys will do it if you slip 'em a sawbuck, just go straight up to the garage entrance.

FYI - just remember that they have to deflate your tires completely first (to get rid of all the air), and then refill with the 100% Nitrogen.

Of course and it is kind of weird to see your tires vaccumed, sucked-in around the rim.

I suppose racing teams just like to waste money on a nitrogen filling system.

Nitrogen is dryer than plain air which reduces rim/valve/tire belt corrosion making all components last longer. Additionaly, nitrogen fill is less subject to temperature effect. And in the event of a small leak, the leak would be slowed down considerably.

Hm. You're right about air humidity, however I've never heard of a wheel corroding out from the inside; most are coated with some sort of paint or clearcoat and the parts that get nicked are quite thick and the oxide film becomes a protecting layer. They are indeed less affected by temperature but it's relatively small percentage difference vs air...very important for racing teams, not so important for those of us whose tires don't reach 100C. Finally, not sure why you think the leak would be slowed? MW of N2 is 28, air is 29. Technically yeah the leak is 3% slower but that's picking the flyshit out of the pepper, don't you think?

The difference is minimal I agree but I didn't buy the best car I could afford to skimp on a small inexpensive detail. As some say, it is all in the details.

funny you said that cause i thought the same thing at first until i reread it several times....50% off your nitrogren WITH the cost of an alignment.

so if you're saving $100 off the cost of nitrogen, it leads me to believe the nitrogen is $200. WTF???

Here's the "coupon"

Alignment/Nitro Special
Alignment Special:
Regularly $459.95
With purchase of the alignment,
we will Nitro-Fill your tires at 50% OFF!

With 50% Off coupon: $359.95
(Active steering slightly more)
