Max spacer size for stock bolts and 18" wheels?
I have access to a watejet and wanted to cut some small spacers to push the stockers out a bit on track day. After rolling the fenders, it just looks retarded.
Just by looking, it seems like there isnt a lot of room "thread wise" to put out the stock wheels. Does anyone have first hand experience putting spacers in the front or rear on stock 18s with stock bolts. I was guessing 5mm in the rear and 2~3 in the front. Thanks |

Sorry, I guess I need to re-write my question. Im not buying anything. I only have 3 days to make this happen.
Im going to waterjet (make my own) "small" spacers for the rear and hopefully front as well. I want to use the stock bolts on the stock wheels. Obviously my limitation is the amount of adequate thread that goes into the hub. Using the calipers the rears have about 12.6mm of thread engagement standard. Id assume I could add about 5mm and still hold proper torque and not overstress the hardware. For the fronts, its a little shady. They appear to have a little less engagement to begin with, so I may not mess with them. |

If you use any type of spacer, I would NOT use the OEM bolts. They are only designed for that particular offset. If you use a 5mm spacer, get bolts that are 5mm longer than OEM.

Typically I would agree with you. What sparked this idea (and what throws me off) is the fact that the front wheel bolts are making much less engagement then the rears. In other words, the rear bolts catch more thread. I was hoping I could put the rears out at the same amount of thread engagement as the fronts.
I guess I will pass on this for now. Where can I pick up longer bolts (and what size/type are the bolts currently? Thanks |

No, M12x1,5. Thread is 25mm long and the bolt all together is 50mm long. Thats the info I got from a BMW-tech anyways.
