Dunlop Direzza Z1 vs. Bridgestone RE 01-R
These are my top two choices to replace my RFT's. I have read the tire rack test results on both. These tires will be daily driven with occasional auto-x and track days. The cost is close enough between the two to not be an issue for me.
Does anybody have experience with the Dunlops? My concern with them is that I had a set of the FM-901 on another car and they were noisy as hell. This tire appears to be a similar tread pattern so I am especially interested in feedback on noise levels. Thanks!

Here is tireracks comparison they did.
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/...y.jsp?ttid=100 Another good place to check is on SCCA forums where people test them auto-x'ing and at the track. Like this thread. http://sccaforums.com/forums/thread/283367.aspx I just bought a set of RE-01's for my Miata last summer so I won't be buying a new tire this year for it. But I am really happy with the RE-01's. The Dunlops also seem really nice though, might be worth trying out in your case. I am in the same boat as you and want a very high performance summer tire on my BMW. Although I don't plan on tracking it. But I do want the best tire I can get on the street. Right now I couldn't even go with these though as they don't make them for 19" wheels. But since you plan on auto-xing and tracking you probably will be going with 17's or 18's so you will be fine. I'd say give them a shot and let us know how you like them

I am real happy with my Pirelli P-0s. Tire Rack has them about equal with the RE-01r & Direzzas in dry performance (lap times, slalom), ahead in ride quality, way ahead in braking and wet performance. Compare link above with: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/...ay.jsp?ttid=98

Like the OP, I read the TireRack compairison and have been consdiering these two tires as well. Historically been a Bridgestone person (S-03 PP, RE930) butt the Dunlop WinterSport SP have been quite impressive this year and perhaps I should consider their High Performance tires when the time comes.
Would like to hear feedback on both the Direzza Z1 and the RE 01-R (good or bad). I'm not tracking the car but like KanosWRX I like getting the best tire avalible.

Just came across this thread. I just bought a set of the Direzza Z1's based on both Tirerack and the customer reviews. I will be taking them out to Virginia International Raceway the 2nd weekend in March. I will definitely post my thoughts after that event!
I will also mention that I'll be running them on a set of 17x8.5 Kosei K1s. I doubt they would perform much differently on the OEM wheels.

Can't wait to hear some feedback on the Dunlops, especially the noise level.

I just got RE-01Rs and I LOVE THEM!!!!!!!!!!
Turn-in is just as sharp as the stock runflats, but without all the harshness. These are very sticky tires, even to the touch. I can't wait until the tread depth is worn down a little and the temps. heat up a little. These tires along with my KWV2 and H&R sway bars, is going to make for some fun on/off ramps.
