Should BMW launch the F87 M2 base version in a (more) vivid color ?
As we know, earlier this week this dedicated Bimmerpost forum leaked the info that the BMW M2 (F87) will be launched in:
In my view, the M2 needs a more vivid color to mark its presence as newborn ///M breed within the car world. No clue why the marketing folks at BMW totally missed out on that easy opportunity: color as a statement. Hard to believe that they would have decided to reserve more vivid color(s) for the future M2 GTS/CSL. Of course, everyone is entitled to his own point of view. Hence, this poll: should BMW launch the F87 M2 base version in a (more) vivid color ? EDIT: for those speculating that the limited color choice for the M2 base version would be some kind of sales strategy to get customers to opt for 'BMW Individual', which comes at an €xtra co$t: so far 'BMW Individual' treatments are not possible at the factory where the M2 will be manufactured (BMW Leipzig factory). Hence, as regards the forthcoming M2 base version, early adopters are left to their own devices if they want their M2 cars to sport a different color than monochrome (AW/BSM/MG) or cocktail blue (LBB): a wrap or a repaint. Alike the 1M, and except if stated otherwise by BMW, it looks like BMW will decline requests for another exterior color (except if you have a truly exceptional relationship with BMW and significant deep pockets).

Guessing they have had internal meetings and said why give away the cool colors when we can upsell them for $5,000....

I think Sahkir Orange or Dakkar Yellow would be fantastic as a choice, especially since it transforms the car's personality tremendously compared to the metallic and black colours we currently have on offer.
They've done it with the 1M as well as the M4, so I can't understand BMW's decision to not bring in a more brash colour for the M2. |

I think this is a good point - something like Lemans would have been much better IMO. The single blue offering looks a bit "soft" to me.

I almost feel like the M2 is the red headed step child of M division. they really are doing everything they can to make it a subtle car. The M2 could have been so much more but the were restrained from making it too good/brash in fear of it sabataging the overly bloated M3/M4
Im glad I gave up my number one position at my dealer, very disappointing numbers/options

BMW won't be getting any 5k since they can't make Individual colours at the Leipzig plant. However, by the looks of things a lot of shops might make money as people will possibly want a stand out colour

I was honestly hoping for 380hp/380lb.ft. w/ overboost going to 430lb.ft. with the good old N55. I am more disappointed in this than I am with the lack of colors. Well, it all depends on how light it is and how well the transmission options (MT/DCT) are set up.
In terms of color, they should've offered more "standard" colors. AW, BSM, and MG are all cool colors. I am personally a little unsure with the LBB. I would've been happier if they made it so that Tanzanite Blue or Royal Blue or anything darker if "blues" are the only option for a "special" color. I think they limited themselves from doing an "exclusive interior only." The contrasting blue isn't very pretty when paired with a strong red or a vibrant orange. Also, the 1M also "failed" in providing color options with only having THREE but we all know how great that car would've looked with numerous other current color options (even more so with some individual colors). BMW better not "cheap out" on the M2's interior stitch. My 135is only has stitch on the seats and rear seats/bench but not on the door inserts, headrests, leather boots (parking brake + DCT selector), parking brake, and steering wheel. The blue piped floor mats are very cool too but I hope they have an aftermarket option of blue piped all weather floor mats for those that want one. The key here is to offer more interior options to free up more colors. |

I'm always of the opinion that BMW needs a dedicated M car, not a souped-up family sedan/hatch. The car people are looking for is better an M3/M4, is better in either an M2 or a (now) 340i, depending on what you are looking for. At the end, given the M2 remains a niche, and will likely become FWD, there will be no more it.
Had it been a no compromise 2+2 sports car, for those that want extra practicality over a pure two seater like a Z4, it would no more be such a niche car. Given BMW has never built any pure performance sports car or supercar, they could at least build something they are good at. But apparently BMW Marketing analyst are too stupid. |

The M235i has better color options. Personally, I like Estoril more than LBB. I saw an X6M yesterday in LBB and it is a vivid color. Really pops but I'm not a fan of it.

I think Long Beach Blue looks like a winner....a very vivid light blue with metallic touches will be a nice colour for the M2-----not really aggressive like Valencia Orange was....but I don't think they are aiming for the M2 to be a 'no
compromises' car like they did with the 1M. the M2 is probably aiming to be an all around good performance car and I think it's a good colour choice for that! I like the cool oceanic tones of it. |

I love all these jealous M235 owners talking smack about the M3/M4, M2 and 1M. Pretty sad....at least you have 18 poser M badges on your cars right? LOL...3500+ pounds of poser M badges on an ordinary car. |

Back to ///M (color)Basics...
I would have liked to see some classic BMW ///M colors.
Colors like: Hell Red or Imola Red Dakar Yellow or Speed Yellow Techno Violet (even though I know its a love/hate color - I dig it!) Santorini Blue or Laguna Seca Moonstone Silver Metallic Citrus Black Metallic I am also puzzled that we did not see Donington Grey make the cut. A few of my insiders(I have more than one source!) insisted that Donington Grey, would be one of the lead intro colors for the M2. Dackel PS: I guess BMW's thinking behind LLB(Long Beach Blue) is that many 1M's were built in VO and many(?) 1M owners might want a change from VO to something "different". ? Just a guess on my part.

Could it be that the M Division marketing people are just getting old ? Nice sensible boring colours that they themselves would choose... never mind what all those young upstarts want. Perhaps the M2 is going to have equally sensible mechanics, maybe an extra cupholder or two, nice soft suspension, perhaps a sit-up-and-beg driving position ? By doing all they can to prevent potential M3 / M4 buyers trading down, they have maybe killed off the M2 before it's even been announced. As companies mature they become more and more mundane and risk-averse. Could it be BMW's turn ?

Im debadging my 235i anyway. so the only thing that will say ///M on it is the brakes-the 405m rims i just ordered and the steering wheel. what I cant debadge is the ///M splash screen on the dash/Nav Screen when it boots up. Ohh well I know its not a true ///M car and thats all that matters. Go troll in the m3/m4 threads, or is it because your jealous you dont have one that your over here bashing the 235i? Denial is Defeat!
