10,000 Service Question......

My M235i is coming up on 10,000 miles. To the members that have already taken their M235i to the dealer for it's first service, what is done during this visit and its free of charge, correct.

And yes it is free as all scheduled service for the first four years or 50,000 miles is free.

The oil change service occurs at 12 months or 10,000 miles, which ever comes first. Mine hit 12 months this month, so I took it in for the free oil change and inspection. It only 5300 miles on it.

it's 12 months or whatever the computer says ... not 10000... computer could say 9000 or 12000

Oh yeah... initially I said no to the car wash, but my SA said oh they use a decent detail company and that they were nothing like the other dealer I referenced that messed up the paint on my e36 M3 back in the day.

Yeah... no.... they definitely swirled the paint... had to go pay for an expensive detail after that to try and get the swirl marks out etc.

Not only do I refuse the wash, I put 2 signs reading "Do Not Wash" in my car (one over the speedometer, one taped to the wheel).

There were 3 times they ignored the signs on my 335 and washed it anyway. Swirled it all three times.

The first oil change is one year from the manufacture date or when mileage says which ever comes first. My BMW had a December 2013 manufacture date and a March 2014 delivery date. The computer asked for the first service in December 2014.

Ah, you see you have to get another of their washes to even it out.
1 wash is swirls, 2nd wash counters the first swirls, 3rd wash returns swirls, 4th was cancels the 3rd wash swirls, and so on it goes.
Yeah, that's it. That's the ticket!
If only it worked that way.

No matter how much the service writer claims their wash will NOT damage the paint, it always does.

I too request NO WASH, and they always wonder "why not?".
I only use hand held pressure wash with a nice soft sheep wool like mit, works great and no swirly paint.

My 2013 335i is still on the 15K or yearly oil change interval.
But I think they changed that to 10K for current 3 series as well.
I'm at 27K miles and have had only 2 yearly oil changes. I never reached the point where the computer told me it was time for an oil change, just the yearly interval.
I wonder if my software needs an update for the new 10K?
Doesn't matter as my lease is up at the end of August, then M235i here I come!

Some of you guys are really, really anal... I love that the dealership washes my car, it saves me the $8 for running it through the car wash myself... It's just a car. A nice one that I love very much, but still just a car. Of course, Tasman doesn't show swirls as badly as a darker color. Hoping Estoril will be similar.

As for the servicing, yes, pretty much just a scope and oil change for the first one. Personally, I follow the "old school" service schedule and did a break-in engine, transmission, and diff oil changes myself when I got it home from ED. And it is now due for the 2nd round of transmission and diff oil changes. That regime was good enough for my Mom's old '83 528e to go 300K+.

Mine has almost 10k on the clock now, but the computer is saying another 9000 miles before oil change due or March 2016 which will be two years from manufacture date, and as far as i know it hasn't had one oil change done. Ive had the car since 2.5k on the clock. So does two years and/or going on 20000 miles between oil changes seem a bit much? Might be worth me checking service manual to see if oil was changed before i got it....

Edit: Car was 6 months old when i got it.

Not sure why but those of us in the UK have a much longer interval between oil changes. Mine is 2 years or 24,000 miles which I'm just about to reach.

Could be higher quality petrol that when combusted exhaust gases in the crank aren't as acidic or whichever parameter is the offender.
Do new car owners in the U.K. get a 4yr/50 mile warranty. And do you guys have emission testing.

I'm pretty sure that if they are like here in Germany they have none or only 5% ethanol content in their fuel. That may have something to do with it as well.
