Witnessed BMW M2 test day at Laguna Seca - one-piece seats and DCT spotted
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com The Navy has giving me the opportunity to travel the world and live in some pretty cool places such as Japan for 18 months. I moved back to the states this past December to Monterey, California for graduate school and I have the privilege of living 20 minutes away from Mazda Laguna Seca. (6/22/15) I was able to head out to Laguna today and what did i see?? The new member of the M Family being tested out on the track. I got some pictures on my iPhone at Turn 3. I was able to talk to the driver (who was a BMW driver from Germany) as he was filling up and I got a close up look of this beast (wasn't allowed to take pictures that close, I asked). We referred to the new M as "it" and "it" sounded great. The 10 or so laps I was able to watch of the new M on the track sounded great and handled well. Up close the M looked very similar to the design of the M235i, had same one-piece seat design as the F80/2, DCT 7 Speed, and 19inch wheels. I'm excited, as I am sure other enthusiasts are, to see this beast hit the street and more importantly the track in the near future. On a side note: This was the drivers first time at Mazda Laguna Seca and loved the track. If you ever have the opportunity to do a track day at Laguna, Do It!! you will not regret it -Randy Last edited by hayes180; 06-23-2015 at 11:22 PM.. |

My brother-in-law snapped a couple of this mule from Saturday. Its looks like an older mule as the rear flares arent molded to the body yet; so suspension testing? These were the only shots he was able to get.
Sidenote: Apparently that was the X5M in front of the M2 as well |

suspension testing makes perfect sense. I actually saw this picture yesterday on FaceBook (taken in Carmel Valley in CA), which led me to check Laguna Seca website to see if anything was going on. I saw "BMW Test Day" listed for today and I went there this morning and exactly what I hope for.

I did a quick peak inside the interior. It was black with blue stitching, but not 100% done yet, as it was very basic, had the flip up navigation/radio/display like the new F80's/F82's did with a DCT transmission.

Nice! Was it a 1 piece seat like the F80s? Straight leather or mix of cloth/ alcantara with leather?

What's with the rear fenders? They look much more unfinished than the other test mules out there.

Next time, wave the checkered flag, get up close and personal and snap few more photos/upload to Bimmerpost immediately, before BMW handlers in black fatigues surround you and confiscate/destroy der mobile device.
All this wait better be worth if, if we get a bloated pig with an average engine and some suspicious, weight-reduction attempts, I'll be thoroughly disappointed, given the silly secrecy with this car. Cute seats and a quad exhaust won't cut it... |

I bet they were just making sure it would pass the sound nazi test at 90db.
If any of the engineers are reading this I have a few roads I can show you tomorrow to test with. Just let me have a ride :-) |

When I test drove the M4, I loved the engine/chassis but didn't feel that the EPS was better or worse than the M235i and the exhaust note, IMHO, sucked as*, cold or warm. At the end both cars would more than satisfy my humble DD needs. |
