Exhaust Flapper Tech Bulletin

So, my exhaust flapper started to rattle the other day, and I crawled under to take a look and when I pulled on the spring clip, "pop" it came right out!

Called the dealership and explained the situation and sure enough, tech bulletin came out for "rattle noise" in exhaust. They did the repair and all is well again...something about the heat shield and bolts.

Very interesting! I'm pretty sure I've heard a rattle... Although I have the MPE installed so I guess it doesn't apply to me. I thought I'd try and spray some grease back there.

My service manager didn't mention if it was just oem mufflers or if it went across all mufflers, it was about the servo, and your mpe has a servo. I'd check!

That's great! Mine wasn't plugged in and I had the rattle...it's a servo thing so it's not effected by power.

I also noticed that putting your car in sport + and unplugging the harness doesn't change the valve position...hence why most are saying it makes little to no difference.

I unplugged it when it was cold and I guess it has been unplugged almost from the beginning it is tight enough not to rattle. Now sometimes I think I hear something but not enough to worry about and i also have the mPE

Well...I'd have to jack the car up again cause I'm too fat to crawl underneath!

I can say that the clip is a u-shaped rod about the thickness of a coat hanger and it is compressed when the solenoid is attached to the exhaust bracket. Both the solenoid and the actual flapper valve have a straight groove that the spring sits in, and the compression is what holds it in place. It fills the 1/2" gap between the flapper and the solenoid.

Helpful?

Do you know what they changed? I have the same rattle, but I changed exhaust so I can't bring it in for that.

The heat shield...which is the metal cover that protects the servo.
