Anyone crack a 330 rim?

I just hit a pothole in my 2006 330xi sport, oem rims and tires (turanza el42) and cracked the rim completely (360degrees around) in half. has this happened to anyone else? Pictures in a few days when i get it back

Happened on I-80 West between exit 55-56 in NJ.. this is 15 minutes off of the GW bridge

that happened to me but with diff rims. i was on belt and hit a pothole..... the reason its cracked 360 degrees is because when it loses the air in tire, the weight of the car is riding on ur rims.

same exact reason why i dont take 280/80 anymore. I take 78 and 24 but 24 developed a LOT of holes. seems like NJ is like a garden...floods and cracks like soil once dried. 2 day after i got my car, i hit a HUGE hole on 80!! u know that you can claim your damage against the state. go to NJ state risk management dept. There's a hotline. I got my wheels bent last wednesday and got my rims replaced under tire/wheel insurance.

sorry to hear that, what a pita and costly expense.
wow, oem rims are supposed to be pretty strong (they certainly are pretty heavy).

how fast were u going and was it a direct hit on a huge pothole ?

btw, instead of buying a new, expensive oem rim consider after market.

good luck

Yea, I do. The metal split in half

>>how fast were u going and was it a direct hit on a huge pothole ?

65Mph, direct hit. I didn't see it, but it felt huge.

I had planned on calling NJ State, thanks for that info.

I haven't had it happened to me in I80 but I do know the road can be pretty tough at certain spots. I have just gotten used to avoid them with my 330i

run flats wont really do much good if the rim completely cracked, which means the tire is shot to hell too

There was a post saying the weight of the car is riding on the rim. It's not with runflats. Unless you blow the tire off the bead and wheel all together. I get the cracked rim part. BIG HOLE = cracked rim. but the runflats are going to hold the weight of the car if the wheel can hold the tire
