Installed Performance Rear Diffuser

Installed the Performance rear diffuser which seemed pretty straight forward however these brackets were shipped with it. For the life of me I can't seem to figure out where they go. Everything lined up perfectly but I'm wondering if they add some support somewhere?

I did not use them either. I suspect they may be needed for a non-M235i model. I also did not use the gray rubber beading cord that was also included. Did you use that and if so, where/why? Did not seem necessary to me.

I didn't use the gray rubber stuff either. The old diffuser didn't have any and there was nothing indicating where it would go so I'm guessing whatever purpose it serves isn't that big of a deal.

They attach right above the muffler where the shield is attached and to the two lower fasteners located towards the center of the diffuser. Been a while so I cannot remember if they go inside or outside of the shield. Guessing they just add extra support to the center as the shield is soft aluminum. The cord is for masking when painting.

Would have been nice if BMW included some instrux with the parts. I really don't think the braces are necessary as the heat shielding is already very stable. However, I'll take another look next time the car is here.

Has anyone painted their performance diffuser? I'd like to see some pics, because I'm debating either painting it or leaving it black. TIA

Would love to see a photo of where they attach. Any chance to send a pic? Struggling to see why they are necessary as the diffuser is SO solid without them, but if I've got them, then I'll make addition for further solidity.

Do these brackets give extra support to the upper portion of the diffuser?
