Gislaved Nordfrost 5. Nice stuff. But I'll be trading the car in with those on Style 158's at the end of winter for an F30 328xi.

Michelin X Ice 2
Amazing winter tires, had them for 3 years now. This will be the fourth and they grip like glue however I think the X Ice 3 came out last year. |

I think mine are Michelin Alpin PA4 RFT. Got it from Costco 2 seasons ago.

I went with some deep snow cheapo barum winters a few years back mounted on some M6 rep wheels. The rubber wasn't more than 100 bucks a tire, but they have done me very well over the last 3/4 winters. I wouldn't get too caught up on the idea of performance snow tires, just get a dedicated deep snow tire that isn't trying to be too many things at once (ie. performance snows).

Mixed set of 3 different Dunlops, two of which are RFT. They came with the car. May put Blizzaks on it in a year or two when they're worn out. Have been happy with the Blizzak WS tires I've had on three other cars.

How noticeable is the RWD vs X drive in the snow? I'm ditching my RWD E90 325i for an X drive F30 328xi this spring. I'm looking forward to it.

Very, but it gives a false sense of security. A RWD BMW IMO is undrivable in the snow without appropriate tires, AWD drives. Many feel invincible because they can climb any hill (within reason of course) and blow through 5' drifts so they proceed to drive faster.... Then they try to turn or stop.

I had goodyear nordic tires on my e46, they were great (RWD vehicle). Looking to pick up some Hakka R2's for my 335xi, I've heard they are amazing. Blizzak has had some good reviews too..

Its really different once you have tried both, you well get a lot of people saying RWD+Snow Tires is very good, of course with the help of DSC/TC. The biggest difference is cornering and getting out of the snow and uphill. Stopping doesn't make a difference.

Night and Day. RWD leaves you spinning or fighting with TC alot when starting or having to change directions quickly. X-Drive is spectacular with good set of winter tires. Last winter I actually carried around a tow strap and found my self rescuing even some big SUVs and trucks that were stuck. BMW's X-Drive is phenomenal, and paired with the n54 you are unstoppable in the snow.

I actually bought a tow rope this year as well, just in case if someone needs help.
This is what I got... http://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/14...l#.Vh_7O_lVhBc Last year after the big snow storm, around my condo. Everyone with without winter tires were stuck around my condo, doesn’t matter what they drive. Also some cars that had winter tires were still stuck and couldn’t get out. That was the time I really saw the difference. Later some of the residents of the condo asked me why I was never stuck with my “small car” lol. My x-drive with winters just cruised through, but not before I forgot to disable the DSC/TC.
