Sliding cover for cup holder

Has anyone managed to replace the old cup holder cover (lift off and store in glove box) version for the new lci sliding version?

This would be a great little mod. Unfortunately I dont think this will be easy. At least in my F36, the area in front of the cup holder is the ashtray and lighter so there is no room for the cover to slide forward. It looks like in the LCI BMW did away with the lighter and replaced it with a shallow storage area.

On the LCI the lighter socket is between the cup holders (you can see the round blanking plug that covers it in the photo)

I imagine you would need to also swap out the part directly in front of the cup holder too or else there will be no room for the top part of holder to slide forward. Also will need to relocate the cigarette lighter to the new cup holder.

I think this would be a cool little mod but all the work required seems much for me.

You should only have to move the plug, the pic shows the outlet in the middle of the cup holder now. I think the sliding part rolls up guessing how the cover looks.

I would be interested to do this mod as I have successfully remove the entire cup holder trim on my Pre-LCI F30 before. But damn the price for that plastic piece is no joke man..300USD+

The sliding cover does not roll up, it's hard plastic. I only know because I had a 2016 loaner a few weeks ago

Thats what I was thinking too. From the pics the cover looks to be thick plastic the pushes forward and underneath the utility tray in front of it.

Hopefully the price goes down on this a bit. Looks like its the whole trim piece, not just the cup holder (see #2 in pic below).

So what do you do for a 12v socket? I use mine to charge my phone and that of the missus when she's with me.

I'd be pretty unimpressed if I lost my 12v front socket.

Read the thread. It's still there, just relocated.

Sorry man. Not sure what happened. The pic must have been changed at the source. This should be the right one.

If you are going ahead with this mod, I reckon it is more worth it to buy the piece with the knee pad like on the M cars. Else, it is really too expensive.

Interesting, I wonder if it will be a direct fit. I can't seems to find the part number of it for Right Hand Drive though.

EDIT: Never mind, found it. Now..I wonder where can I order this..

My Friend did the change to the pc with knee pad on pre LCI model and it is direct fit. If the 2016 F80 M3 have the sliding cup holder changed too, then it should fit. I m not certain about that.

Anyway, it cost SGD400+ or RM1.2K+ which to me is too expensive.

Where do you order the part? 1.2k sounds reasonable for the one with knee pad as the one without also cost near 300usd
