328 M-sport conversion after wreck. Before and after!

Been away from the forum for a while but I know this is the place to go when I need the right answers!

So I wrecked the 328 Monday and it looks like they are not going to total it, damages came in at around 13k right now. They have not opened the hood yet but I don't think they will find enough additional damage to total it out.

So since I am going to be forced to take this thing back I might as well do the Msport conversion while the insurance company is going to be paying for a lot of the parts, labor and paint. I priced out the full kit from GBP and its $1850.00 so after reading the repair quote I should only have to come out of pocket about $900 for the kit, plus whatever the shop charges me to paint the rear bumper and install it.

Has anyone ever done this type of thing? I am having all the work done at a BMW specialty shop that my dealership uses, Motorwerks in Minneapolis does not have their own shop. Will the insurance company have issue with me making the changes as long as I cover the difference?

What about the exhaust? Thinking I should also get the M 335 dual exhaust to make the kit look right?

Holy smokes. I will be surprised if this is not totaled. In my experience, the insurance company wont care as long as you pay the difference.

BTW, I used to live in Bloomington! Lovely place and even nicer people!

Yeah, really pissed the appraiser is saying its not totaled right now. I don't know how he can send in a estimate when they have not even opened the hood yet....I really don't want the car back, but if I have to take it back I may as well do the conversion so I at least get something out of it.

I agree with you. I wouldnt want the car back either. I say push to have the insurance bring it to BMW to have it inspected. There are so many things that cant be seen that needs to be inspected (frame, engine, suspension, etc).

Pretty bad damage.

From my experience. I would take the car to a Bmw foreman and get the wheels checked out. Ask if the wheel will still track straight. If it's not then I would recommended the dealer to give you a quote to see how much that would cost to repair, then that will be added to the insurance claim. If it's close or over the replacement cost then they will total it. Insurance companies never look at the mechanical issues.... Good luck.

They put replacement wheels for both sides in the estimate, but they quoted reconditioned wheels. I already plan on fighting that, you never know what you are going to get with something that has been reconditioned.

I would have a tech check the alignment and control arms or get them all replaced on that side.

Thanks, I will look into that also. My hope is that they will find a bunch more stuff when they open the hood and total it out....

I went by the shop yesterday to look at the damage after they removed everything, it wasn't near as bad as it looks. I ordered the full M-tech kit and front splitter lip! I will post updates when I get her back better than she was! (I hope)

Thanks.

I wanted something a little different from every other 3er out there. I also had the outer rim of the kidney grills painted silver to bring it all together.
