CBU cleaning with WURTH chemicals

Hello

My local shop says they use Wurth chemicals instead of walnut shell blasting to clean the CBU. Anybody know anything about this?

Probably something like this?

I have tried something similar from Liqui Molly, not sure about result, ended up to take out the intake and clean it manually.

I would say this type of cleaning could be used as preventive let say at oil changes.

But if the problem exist it will not dissolve it

PS
This is only my opinion, i am not a technician so i am probably wrong.

Have them show you before and after pictures. I would be interested in knowing if this really does anything helpful. It might supplement blasting, but I have my doubts that it could replace walnut blasting. I could be wrong though.

I have a couple concerns with something like this

1) All of that carbon will be stripped away from the intake manifold/valves/head and be sent through the turbos, DPF, and Catalyst potentially creating a major blockage issue.

2) Will this even work on our diesel? What is the fuel pressure required for the M57? Would that can even provide the necessary pressures?

You're missing the obvious. This particular method would do nothing for CBU in the intake because the chemical is delivered as fuel. In order to clean CBU, the cleaner would have to be carried by the air through the intake manifold, not by the fuel through the injectors.

The video is incorrect, it was just the first one found in google.
We are not speaking about fuel system

This is what i have used, probably it is something similar.

You are 100% correct. I'm so used to my non-direct injection thinking. This car has me all backwards.

Now you're talking, Lexx. So what were your results with this spray?

Thanks for the feedback

From what they told me they are removing the intake manifold rotating the engine so the valves are closed and soaking the ports with this then removing and repeating the cycle for each intake. I'll let you know more tomorrow when I take it in.

And ask for pictures :-)

Not going to do it. It's going to loosen up and dissolve the light stuff. The harder carbon build up won't come off. Just do the media blast.

I will disagree with you.

I was washing my EGR valve, first i was trying to use some kind of brake cleaner, after that i have got a carb cleaner, it worked better, but still didn't do its job.
Finally i have bought a gallon can of some dipping carb cleaner in walmart, after a day in that stuff EGR valve came out dirty but all the buildup was dissolved.

So my message is that the right chemicals can do a job, maybe not the perfect one, but very good one.
And no reason to make perfect one if it will be messed up up after first thousand miles.

LOL OK. Yea, I cleaned my swirl flaps and throttle body too, you have to since you have no other option. You can't media blast them. The oil sludge on the flaps is not the same hardened carbon found on the valves. Did you clean your intake, intake runners or valves? Please post pics of your valves.

No i did not.
My plan is to install meth injection and let it clean by it self

I don't think that'll work. Your swirl flaps were gross, I'm sure your valves are horrible. As I mentioned earlier, chemical cleaning won't do the trick. You need to use the media to remove the carbon on the valves/ runners.

It's a very simple process. The hardest part is removing the intake.

Cleaning done

Got delayed a week but finally got the CBU cleaning done using chemicals.

It took him longer than planned, he said it was worse than others he has done. however in the end the price was good and the pics look good. Engine feels a little stronger and now to see if I get some MPG back.

$820, 5 hrs labor plus new valve cover and intake manifold gaskets. He ended up keeping the car for two days to let it soak.

Aren't parts about $250 for this regardless what cbu removal method you go with? So about $100-ish / hr for 5 hrs using that method and $250 in parts.

Not bad.

Any pics of the chamber and valves? The valvecover, intake, throttle body are all easy to clean with chemicals. Did the clean the carbon build up on the valves?
