Coilovers official thread

What options are there for the 335d lci Coilovers? Stainless is a must, looking to drop the car about and inch or so, and improve overall handling.
I was considering KW V1's (as I do not plan to track the car) but I don't believe they make a specific package for the 335d? (Not sure about spring rates or fitment) The places I've been checking say they are for the 335i's.
As I have not ruled anything out yet, and I would also like this to be a good resource for others, please share thoughts/experiences with any sets ups good or bad.

I have ST coil overs and for the money, they're phenomenal. Better ride than stock and much more responsive. Might want to look in the classified section, all 3 series stuff fits (minus M3) an you can save a bunch of money getting a lightly used set.

ST's are the same as KW's except they are zink plated instead of stainless, so this is good to know ??

To be honest with you, a lot depends on your budget and the quality of ride and adjustibility you are looking for when it comes to dampening and rebound.

I have Ohlins R&T w/ Swift Spring upgrades, which is more of a track oriented set up when it needs to be.

There are no coilover kits that are specific for an E90 335d, only springs from H&R. You can basically use anything that is compatible with an E90 335i suspension wise.

Many people have had good experiences with ST on the lower end of the budget scale, KW suspensions are a very popular choice along with the increased adoption of Ohlins setup. There are also people running coilover setups from H&R, Eibach, Ground Control, etc.

You will be able to find a lot more info in the E90 suspension sub forum.

Sure, but the 335d is slightly heavier right? I just want to know if a set for a 335i would be a direct bolt up, and handle the way it was designed with the additional weight? The ohlins sound like a great set up, but as I don't plan to track this car I think they may be a little over kill for street use only.

What do you think every E90 335d owner is running when it comes to coilovers?? Yes, the E90 w/ the M57 is heavier but we are all running coilovers made for the E90 w/ N54 & N55.

If you are trying to stiffen up the spring rates then switch the springs to Swift w/ the appropriate rates you are looking for.

If I knew, I would not have created this thread... When I contact vendors concerning the 335d most of the time I'm told they do not sell anything that fits my car, thus the reason for this thread, to educate thru experience/use of other members to give others like myself who are unsure of fitment/reliability/ride heights/handling/tire fitment/ and over all ride quality (after coilover install) specific to the M57 e90 series cars. I do appreciate your input,(that all suspension upgrades intended for the 335i's N54/N55's are 100% compatible with the M57 platform)
If this is true, this is helpful

I will reiterate that all the 335i rwd stuff fits. Vendors that say it won't are wrong and simply don't know any better.

As far as the extra weight of our cars, it's only about 200 lbs and the weight distribution front to rear is nearly identical to the 335i and within 1% of 50/50.

So unless you are trying to squeeze the last 0.1% out of the car on the track you will be perfectly fine installing a 335i setup that meets your desired levels of comfort and handling.

I have already sung the praises of my expensive Ohlins. I know that KW has excellent coilovers that I believe are a bit more aggressive the Ohlins.

I have read your praises, they sound like a great set up, but for just street driving they sound like they may a little overkill for my needs? The KW's are approx 800$ cheaper
I also read about BC's, H&R's, and a few other cheaper brands, but from my understanding it sounds like people have problems with them, they don't hold up the same, and people complain about noise from suspension. I've heard mostly good reviews on the FSD's paired with springs, but there is no adjustment with this kind of set up.

I'm leaning towards Ohlin's. My only question is ride height. I really don't want my car any lower.

How long can I expect the stock units to last in my 2011 335d? I am up to 65K and they seem fine.

So much of this depends on use. If you are pounding through a city every day over potholes and heaved expansion joints you're going to get way less miles out of your shocks than someone commuting 60 miles a day on a pool-table smooth interstate.

Former situation you might only get 50K, latter you can probably go over 100K and they'll still be in decent shape.

I've been researching this a lot lately and based on what I've read around here and in other forums, 75-100K seems to be when the stock units start to let go.

I'm not sure about the pricing on the KW's. frankly I would be surprised to find out that they were that much cheaper than the Ohlins. the FSDs are a joke compared to the Ohlins. that said I'm sympathetic... This stuff is expensive

I plan on getting the Bilstein PSS this month. My second choice was the ST's.

I was planning on getting BC Racing coilovers unless someone talked me out of it. I haven't heard any negatives...
