Vibration
Has anyone else experienced a vibration through the steering wheels and under the seat when they first start their D up after it's been sitting overnight or for a few hours ? I notice the vibration when I put the car in drive and my foot is on the brake at a red light. Also feel a vibration through the steering wheel when I go over a speed bump. Any one else experience this ?

I get this from time to time as well. My car only has 47k though. If I rev it a little bit it goes away. In the winter, the engine idles a little lower in rpm for me vs summer. 650 rpm winter vs 750 rpm summer. That small change seems to make it go away. It doesn't bother me though as it is very slight, but noticeable.

I've burned through a few bad injectors and would get a bit of a rough idle now and then like you're describing. It always threw a code after a few occurrences.
As for the speed bumps, it's safe to assume you've got a worn component or three given your mileage. |

I just discovered the vacuum controlled engine mounts. Mine was cracked, although no symptoms. Definitely check your engine mounts. See my post in my plan and tools about this, with photo

+1 motor mounts. I had rough idle almost exclusively in park, got motor mounts replaced and it's perfect. I was told that it is common on our cars.

Before you go change the mounts, please check your vacuum lines. The driver's side gets easily pinched between the subframe and front suspension brace.

I think a little extra vibration when cold is to be expected of a diesel. Mine has done it since new.

a little I would understand, but not when the shake is how my shake is. Just clipped my boost hose back down. Next is to see if any vaccuum lines are loose like Yozh suggested.

To be honest at our cars' age I would suggest replacing those vacuum lines with some quality silicone ones. You will not be able to do them all without disassembling a lot of things, but can do a large chunk of them fairly easy. Just watch not to break some little plastic nipples that lines are connected to.

They are the same 3.5mm ID I believe. Brake Booster ones are different, but they are plastic and are not usually replaced. The ones under the intake manifold at the vacuum distribution block are difficult and should be done when intake is off. Make sure to be careful with plastic nipples. They are brittle. Also, watch for the thickness of the silicone hoses, some thick ones are hard to route. Ultimately, I would rather do the lines in Viton instead of silicone.

This may be the best candidate:
http://www.mcmaster.com/#catalog/122/131/=11o125d The one that is: $4.56 per ft. Product code: 9627T14 Fuel Resistant Blue Fluorosilicone Tubing. |

Thank you Yozh. Rep points for you too.
Per the other swirl flap => to blanking plates thread, I will have vacuum hose on hand when intake is pulled. Mcmaster is wonderful source of all sorts of weird parts. This is where I got parts to mount spare tire underneath trunk. The only thing would be doing different colors for identification purposes. No, I'm not pimping it out with red lipstick like somebody compared PR's scoops to. jajajaja |
