Hey guys and gals. I have had my 335d for about a year and a half, taken her from 17k to about 42k miles and loved every minute. I have a renntech tune with the Wagner IC based off of early post on this forum and it's been a solid combo. I have been thinking of moving to the abc delete with BPC and some meth since they are a stones throw away to improve everything from performance, fuel economy, and reliability...

Then this weekend I hit the equivalent of a sidewalk curb on a highway doing about 70 and bent all 4 rims, 2 bubbles in the tires. The impact caused an alignment issue of my headlights, rear view mirror to suit and a drink to go flying.. Needless to say I did not have kind words to share.

So, my question is, what to do? Repair the rims, spend more for some apex arc8's I like, get rid of it bc of this cost plus the cost of the abc/meth?

I contacted the local DOT with was zero help, was told to do the insurance deal, and looked at a aftermarket warranty on the wheels/tires, but don't think that will work.

Would you guys pony up the nearly 2k for the wheels/tires to be fixed, maybe closer to 3.5k for better rims, or get rid of it because of that cost with the nearly necessary abc delete/meth for reliability? Doesn't help the wife wants me to reduce the car count anyway ha!

My apex ec-7 with Bridgestone potenza re-11 combo was about $2600, more rubber is a necessary with the ABC delete anyway, do it up, it'll change your life

Was thinking the pilot super sports because it's more of a daily driver when the wheels aren't vibrating...... I saw a comp between the 2 and think the pss would fit me better, I do scca occasionally, but it's my go to ride for most trips. I see a lot of people run the ec-7. Any reason for them vs the arc8? I just like the aesthetics a bit more of the arc8, but wondering if I am missing something

I would likely go the insurance route and make sure that the shop checks out everything on the car - wheels, suspension parts, alignment, headlights, etc. It sounds like it was a vicious collision with whatever you hit and you surely want to know that all is right with the car when they are done.

Regardless of whether you keep it or not, you will need to get it fixed. But if you love every mile like you say, why would you want to get sell it?

I say fix it and drive it.

I think that's the route I will end up going but like heather said, I would prefer to use the event as a chance to upgrade than simply spend a few hundred to fix the wheels hopefully the insurance is cool with it.

The collision was with a "lip" of a bridge , they had ground down the pavement before it and had that cement step up left only to create a nice impact point for the wheels.

The uncertainty in the ride is that I tend to keep my vehicles for... A long time. I think this one could fit the bill, just concerned with repair cost. Plus the wife is pushing to sell this one or the 370z. The d is more practical, but the z is so simple and already reliable. I can handle most any routine maintenance, and copy any YouTube vid, just worried about frequency and part cost on the d.

I have the Arc-8's in 19" wrapped in PSS and love them. So much so, that I went out and bought a set of 17" Arc-8's in the same color running a much meatier Conti DWS. I also figured if I got the same type and color of wheels my wife would probably never notice I went out and bought another set of rims. If I had to do it again, I would buy 18" wheels over 19" wheels.

As rulonger said, I would go the insurance route and make sure everything gets fixed correctly and that there is no frame damage, etc. As far as whether or not to keep the car, I think you would regret your decision down the road if you decided to sell. You have a rare car, even more so w/ it being an M-Sport with low miles. From someone who owns 5 vehicles, I can tell you nothing compares to driving the 335d. I have not driven mine in a week and I have been itching to get back into it.

But if for some reason you want some 18" arc-8's, apex is having a group buy on them and it's already exceeded the highest tier. So you will most likely get them for $200 off + free shipping.

Yea it's pretty sweet timing in reality right? My tires were still factory, so very little tread life left, and this deal is on the radar! I am on the feeler list and going to drop the car off to get a full look today and decide then if I want to contact insurance or not. Hopefully I hear then before the deal officially opens to make the call.

What wheel size are you guys running and with what offsets if any?

In the summer I run 235/40/18 on the front and 265/35/18 on the rear.

Front: 18X8.5 et38
Rear: 18X9.5 et33

It frustrates me that the DOT will grind down the road, creating a hazardous situation and major damage causing transition and they can just throw up their hands like, "not our problem".

Excuse my language, but yes it is your f*cking problem!

Related to that my friend has a 370z and a dump truck pulled onto the highway in front of him and was dropping rocks left and right. Before he could switch lanes or create enough space between him and the truck, a rock flew up and put a nice chip in his glass.

He followed the truck and talked to the driver. The driver showed him a sticker they place on the back of the truck that says they are not responsible for any debris that falls out. HOW?! They are littering their "trash" onto the roadways. He tried to take it up the chain through the company, but got nowhere.

I'm going to put a sticker on my gun and say "not responsible for any bullets fired".

What are you running, 18's and what tire sizes?

Yea - their lack of ownership is ridiculous. They did have a sign about 3-4 miles back and orange cones... Where I slowed down... Then the cones and markers disappeared and a mile or 2 later I find the bridge... The DOT guys I talked to made note of it and said a few other people had called, they gave me a form to fill out... Check... Then radio silence.

About to drop it off and get it checked out to see if there is any other damage. Then depending on the deductible and what they would cover, I will decide if I report it. Regardless I think I am doing the pss on the arc-8's, most likely the et33 and et38's. Got to talk to apex though, want to maximize traction without rolling fenders.

It's stupid. Just goes with this day in age. No one is responsible for anything!!!! Let's all just play the victim card.

Btw I'm not talking about the OP...just makes me sick how companies can play the ignorant card

I was in same situation. I didn't feel like involving insurance so picked up style 193 rims with. Tires from a forum member.

Now I don't know what to do with my old rims. 2 are in good condition.

Sell them. Someone will have a set of rims just like yours, 2 bad and 2 good. I've bent rims 6+ times driving our 335D over the last 75K miles. And these are 17"!! Without question the OEM rims are soft, and the runflats are hard and transfer a lot of pothole force. I've been able to have all the rims repaired (some more than once).

I'm about to do a minor suspension upgrade. I purchased 2 new factory rims (Under $300 each) to be used for ones that are bent and/or have curb rash. The 2 rims kicked out will get fully reconditioned to be used when needed. Putting on bilstein B6 shocks (between OEM and sport on stiffness). Finally going to try Bridgestone Driveguard runflat tires. An all season advanced generation runflat that is suppose to ride just like a conventional tire.

Im using EC-7s also in 18s, the 8.5" et 35 up front and the 9.5" et 43 in the back. With those sizes and offsets they easily fit my 235/40 fronts and 275/35 rears, I know I could run wider up front, and it looks like 285/35 would fit without rubbing or rolling in the rear
