New Problem
Need some advice. So the oil smell went away in the cabin replaced by a low constant whistle. I assume a hose has burned through. It also appears that I have now lost my smaller turbo. Any advice would be much appreciated. My mechanic says that they can't find any problems on the vacuum lines to the turbos. They seem a bit lost. Having my EGR blocked I think is deterring them from doing too much digging.

Chief, I had replied to your message. But for now a few questions.
Do you have a way to diagnose your car. Do you have Torque or Carly? Why do you think, your small turbo is not flowing? Do you get a jolt of power past 1500-2000 rpm? Are you handy to take things apart and check for yourself? There a few things you can do before your mechanics start digging in. Have you checked the code 4530 thread i had posted a long long time ago? |

I had the same issue with zero boost at low rpm. It turned out to be a vacuum line that's only accessible if you remove the cowl and reach your hand behind the middle / passenger side rear of the engine... Once I replaced that vacuum hose (extends from rear of engine across the top of engine and connects to a solenoid mounted above the turbos), the car regained full boost. I plan on doing a full vacuum line replacement soon.

Chief, here is a thread that may be helpful for you:
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1066141 One easy thing you can do if you do not have a vacuum pump or a multimeter in order to test your pressure converters, is to swap them around and see if your parameters change. Swap turbine control valve pressure converter with a wastegate one, they are just one after another and swap the compressor bypass valve EUV with one from the EGR cooler. You will have to take a few things apart, but this way you can do it easy and simply before you go and buy things and replacement parts. Also, just like others had said, please make sure your vacuum system is in leak free condition. Would be ideal too check vacuum on it with a gauge. May also be advisable to replace the lines with new and refreshed ones, including the ones for engine mounts vacuum feeds. |
