M235i adaptive - oe MP springs upgrade

BMW now list MP springs for adaptive cars.

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=03_2923

Part number is 33502411196.

Be interested to know how much drop these springs give and if this kit requires adaptive ecu to be recoded.......

Well that is interesting. I'd be interested if it provides minimal drop, but maybe a slightly higher spring rate. Also would be awesome if it involved some damper re-coding, sort of like a BMW OEM Shockware upgrade.

Guessing it's this

http://www.bmw.com/com/en/owners/acc...er/finder.html

Says 10mm drop. No spring rate info.
Not for Xdrive but will work on adaptive.

Why not just do the Dinan springs route?

Pretty sure that's not the only part you need. Wonder what's included in the kit. Wish they had something like that for xDrive.

I just sent an email to the sales guy (BMW Genius?) that sold me my car. He's been super helpful about finding out weird info like this. I'll let you all know what I find, but I would be super, super interested if this is a real thing we can get in the states.

This kit has upgraded shocks/dampers. The Dinan kit is just springs. The dampers are the real issue, not the springs.

Wasko - what you quote above is MP kit for passive damped cars and has been around for a while. This thread is about the MP kit for adaptive damped cars and is new to market AFAIK.....BP

This is awesome. Good chance this will come over here too. Does that kit involve new dampers, or just recoding of the existing dampers?

I just called a BMW US parts department with the 33502411196 part no. Told me it was just a spring set, but didn't seem to know very much. You can also look the part up in google -- it definitely exists, but just looks like a set of springs with new bumpstops. Doesn't seem to be any sort of recoding of dampers (as far as I can tell), but maybe there is just not enough information yet.

The weirdest thing in all of this is when did this part become available? Recently? Seems odd that BMW wouldn't say a thing about it.

Okay, so my guy got back to me. He had parts pull it up, and it turns out that particular part no. is just two front springs and two bumpstops -- which would explain why its only 150 bucks in the states.

So, not really sure why there is a discrepancy between what you (UK) people are being told and what we (US) people are being told. I really, really wish you could reprogram these damn dampers though . . .

This here http://www.bmw.com/com/en/owners/acc...er/finder.html says "This set-up features shock absorbers, struts and stabilisers extensively tested, developed and harmonised in accordance with motor racing criteria, blah, blah, blah" which sounds like there's more to it than just 2 springs. But, yes, the price is alarmingly cheap... So I wonder... what's really involved here.

As for the dampers, I don't think you can reprogram the dampers per se. Rather, you can maybe reprogram the car's computer that handles them. Which brings about a question of whether anyone here knows the tricks to programs the dampers like you would other function of the vehicle. There must be something in the ECU.

No it's not. That was copied directly from the BMW website and it clearly says down the bottom that it is for cars WITH adaptive suspension only e.g. M235i

No new dampers just coding of existing adaptive dampers (maybe the same as BMW have done with F8x CP - adaptive dampers are physically the same hardware as non-CP but have dedicated CP FW preinstalled....)

My local BMW recently coded my mpbbk after a DIY install for 1 hour labour charge.

They are looking into getting the MP Spring install instructions so as they can access the correct add on SW patches from BMW servers to code my adaptive dampers.

Keep us updated. Doesn't seem to be any knowledge of any coding or SW upgrades stateside.

Wasko - my bad you are correct.

I'm looking into getting my existing adaptive dampers updated with MP Spring recalibration to cure slight under damped responses on my existing upgraded springs and ARBs.

10mm seems really small. You think that's before they settle or after?
