Halfway through Stage 3, need advice

Okay guys I need some advice....here's my situation:

I somehow blew a seal in my stock turbos...so instead of getting them pulled, mailed off and rebuilt...I just went ahead and got some stage 3 turbos. In the mean time had a whole bunch of other stuff taken care of as well....CBU clean up, EGR block plates (side note: mechanic said the buildup wasnt really much soot at all, mostly burnt on oil...came off ports with solvent and a rag), considering catch can, going to get my injectors tested/cleaned/rebuilt if needed by a local diesel shop.

Heres the part that I need help on: Because iaknowns exhaust isnt out yet I was hoping to keep everything stock except for the turbo...but I was told that the DPF to downpipe job is a lot of work...so, I guess Ill have the mechanic put that on my bohl downpipe instead. So....now Im left with stock tune, no dpf and the SCR in place with DEF tank still active.

I have a BMS CAN Tool that i believe will take care of some if not all of my emissions related CELs... (any input there would be appreciated) What Im most concerned about is the SCR and the DEF tank/pump. Do I need to pull those fuses as if Ive gotten my tune? I assume all the tune really does is code around the CELs right? What about the no-start issue? Just trying to be prepared for what Ill be facing when we try to start this thing?

Not sure what you would be in for with downpipe on and ECU thinking it can still ask for regens. I wouldn't mess around. Go get that tune with the deletes especially since you have the stage 3 turbos. You may possibly stop the DEF injection but the NOX sensors are going to fuss. Good luck with your course of action.

Yes, of course I will be buying a tune... But my thoughts are tune = more fuel, more fuel = more soot. Im trying to avoid as much soot as possible until the exhuast gets released.

As for new turbos, unless the tune asks for more air and more fuel there should be no difference in how it runs, except it might spool a little quicker... at least so Im told.

My concern is... is there a reason to take the fuses of the DEF injectors.

As far as I know, BPC's tune does not require removing any fuses, and JR's tune does. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

What kind of power and track times can you get on a 335d?

Per Jarek

I just talked to Jarek....sounds like Im hosed. He said that if I dont tune, the ecu will constantly be calling for regens, but with the dpf out, obviously that wont be happening so Ill be getting too much fuel and lots of smoking and such...

SO.... I cant do that...Ill be sending in my chip to get tuned I guess...dont really have a choice now.

I guess Ill run with the SCR still in place and then if I havent gotten my exhaust by 4k miles...Ill cut it out...by that time it will likely be ruined anyway...

Stage 3 (which is hybrid turbo, tune and emissions deletes) puts you around 390 hp and 600 lb ft...... at around 40mpg from my research.

As for track, I think TDIwyse has posted sub 12 sec 1/4.

Monster torque but I guess it's launch and not top end. Still sounds like a nice overall daily driver package. How reliable are they vs a 335 and how much does a stage 3 upgrade cost all in?

Check out the dyno map: http://www.fixmyvw.com/bmw-335d-ecu-...g-performance/

Reliability is sketchy...until you remove all the emissions stuff(if you can in your state), then they seem to be QUITE reliable.

As for cost...depends on how you choose to do it.....starts around 4k...but depends on what you do with your exhuast and intercooler.

BTW if youre in the states you can go through http://www.fixmyvw.com/bmw-335d-ecu-...g-performance/ for the JR tune. Probably simpler and cheaper for you.

Yeah, it does...but to get it that low 1. you have to do all the work yourself 2. You have to gut the SCR/Cat. OR you can buy aftermarket exhuast 3. You are likely have a leaky boost hose at the intercooler and it probs wont be getting enough dense air to get you up to 390....esp not in florida. Thus, you need upgraded IC

Sorry man, my bad. I made that confusing. You were right before, to my knowledge the only one with LSD is the M3. I meant that you could buy them aftermarket...nothing stock.
