I picked up a 30K miles CPO 335d about 3 yrs ago and have to say I still love driving it, for those d drivers out there you know what Im talking about....

I just got a DPF message at 108k Miles, Tells me I may have reduced engine output, which I found out is true when I pass about 3000 RPM, feels like I'm driving through molasses.

My mechanic shows about 4.5 Hrs Labour ($450) to pull and replace, a local shop est about $300 to clean, has anyone done a DPF clean ??? apparently its quite common on the diesel trucks..
I sure its going through its regen, I've a 40mile commute each way, against traffic...I don't know what stop and go is..

or, do I just do a DPF delete, get rid of it completely, Id still keep the CAT and Urea, I've already have a Evolve Remap, I still need to find out if they can code a DPF Delete, though I'm sure they can.
I would need a replacement section, I know some people on this forum have done this, where did you get your replacement from?

for those of you that have done this, what do you think?
clean it and put it back on, or delete it?

Im debating on trading it by year end, so I'm just looking to fix the problems with out forking out a lot of cash, and a trip to the dealer is well down the list...


Also just prior to this I had a check engine light come on, the engine code is P2621, (Throttle position) Coincidence ?? I don't think the to are related..
having a look through these forums, sounds like a ERG valve, that I think I could replace myself pretty easy..

Deleting the dpf and still having the SCR in place will cause the SCR to clog in about 8-10k from other peoples experiences including my own. I put my dpf back on for smog test and I did noticed a huge chunk of soot and urea built up at my nozzle.

+1. If you get rid of the DPF, you'll have to delete the SCR and urea feed as well.

I Have had good luck with cleaning dpf's in the heavy equipment and commercial truck field. Should give you no problems, they use a bunch of wonderful chemicals to clean it to a near new condition.

Just brainstorming here, but I believe the throttle is an active participant in the regen process and if you have a code the DDE may be suppressing regens while there is a throttle problem. I would sort the throttle issue immediately and see if that solves things. Do you watch/track your regens? Using Torque app on my Android device I set an audio alarm whenever the DPF temp gets above 900F so I can set my trip counter. I was averaging about 280 miles between regens. Thought this was a little low so I used a Liqui Moly DPF Protectant additive about 3,000 miles ago and my frequency has increased to around 330 miles after one treatment. I am planning to run a can w/ every oil change.

Edit: Just remembered that the Carly app can tell you how many miles since your last regen. Carly is a little pricy but on the upside it gives better fault code descriptions as compared to Torque and you can do simple coding w/ Carly as well. I have both Carly and Torque and I run Torque daily as I much prefer the interface and use Carly only when I want to do something Torque cannot do.

335dwanted, good point, I've never checked my regens, I will try the torque app, I'm running iOS, can you tell me the app developer, I don't see any just called "torque" so I gave a few options.

With iOS, your app will be Carly.

Not sure what cheap options you have w/ IOS. Carly is pricey, however, that is the only app I am aware of that will tell you how many miles since last regen (at least the Android version does).

It does. It also tell you how many gallons of fuel were used since the last regen, how much longer your DPF will last, etc.

I've been meaning to get the brake fluid flushed anyway so after reading about a recall on the ERG valve I made a call to my service advisor she said there was a Bulletin for this engine extending the warranty up to 120,000 miles I believe, for the throttle, ( which may match with the engine code I got ) so I'll take it in the and see what the story is.

Once that taken care off maybe it will resolve the DPF issue as well fingers crossed

$130 for the flush I verified it was actually a flash not just replacing the fluid in the tank.
