Best diesel mileage
I don't remember seeing a thread for this. Cruising through NC the other day I noticed that me & car really likes the up and down hilly roads. I'm on a Jarek stage 1 tune with all deletes and an empty SCR. On my daily commute with 80% Hwy I usually average 34-35mpg, but this really surprised me:

I've gotten 42.5mpg (hand calculated) on a 353mi trip from VA to NY. It was a pretty boring ride lol

After the delete and BPC Stage 2 tune, I have seen 42 mpg on purely highway driving. My daily commute is in the 30 - 31 mpg range over some rural highways. Even around town (Saturday errands, soccer practice runs, etc) I am getting 27 - 28 mpg.

On a full tank it was 41.66 (hand calc) driving 532 miles between St Louis toward Washington, D.C. That was before my car's illiteracy kicked in, btw. Since then I have seen indicated tank totals of as high as 760 but never stayed on the highway long enough to find out.

42 MPG over 191 miles driving 70 mph on mostly flat ground (south Louisiana), no a/c and no wind. Pretty much ideal conditions. Stock car other than VAC piggyback.

When I drove from Detroit to columbus to louisville, i set the cruise at 75mph and got a hand calculated 39.74 mpg. I prefer to get 37-38mpg at 80-85mph though, 75mph feels sooooooo sloooooow in a 335D.

I've got two 2011 335d cars, and the best I ever have achieved on an extended highway drive, speeds 70-80 MPH, distance over 150 miles, was 36.1 MPG.

My best tankful was 40.2 mpg hand-calculated. That was before my tune. I haven't been patient enough to drive all day at 70 mph since my tune.
My tune has improved my mileage by about 5-7% it seems. I can now get 43.1 mpg on my 123-mile commute with the cruise control set on 75 mph for the interstate leg (60%). I believe the computer since the entire tank reported mileage agrees with the hand calculation. |

I have also noted that the computer estimate is quite accurate now, post-Jarek Stage I.

One thing I noticed though was that with cruise control my car will actually use it's brake in order not to over speed on the downhill. |

Very strange - on my way back I wasn't able to get the mileage above 38mpg even though I tried drove the same speeds.
I'm beginning to think that there might be big differences in diesel quality. Maybe wind played a role, maybe going back up north? |

Usually average 33-36 MPG mixed hwy/mtn/city - We never drive below 84 Mph on the interstate if traffic permits. Again actual speed via GPS not the indicated 90 mph. (All Bimmers read 5-7% more than actual MPH as most of you know). Agree that Lie-O-Meter is pretty accurate and even a little conservative. I'm jealous that you have 2 335d's! We do have a 335d and an X5 35d though Our X5d is tuned by BPC but have not R&R'd the DDE and exhaust yet. Last edited by fsd350; 04-08-2016 at 03:39 PM.. Reason: round trip info |
