interior xenon look (LED)

so i was bored this weekend and did full interior LED lights. I wasnt a fan of dull glow of the OE bulbs.

I put a white 6 figure LED in the footwells and the push button map lights. The 6 LED doesnt fit in the main map light so i used a single LED. But i will be getting a 4 LED this week that will hopefully fit.

The interior now has a nice sophisticated look to it now. More futuristic. And now i have much more lighting. Sorry dont have a pic. I will try to get one with my friend SLR.

I put the blue glass halogen bulbs in my dome and map light assembly, get the job done. I tried it in the footwell but it was next to non-existent so I wired in two 12" CCFL lights instead, now my pedals have never been more visible =] Did you use side facing LEDs in the footwell assemblies? Cause the wedge bulbs sit sideways in the assembly so forward facing LEDs wouldn't produce enough downward light.

I dont have a pic. But basically it looks identical to this guys M3

http://www.m3forum.net/m3forum/showt...167680&page=15 (post #145)

I ordered them from v-leds.com . The bulb size is 194. The 6 LEDs fit in the footwells, map lights, trunk, and liscense plate. The middle maplight cant fit the 6 LED so i did a single LED from ebay. But im getting some 4 LEDs this week (hopefully it will fit).

Guys,

I was told swapping to these LEDs can sometimes cause melting in the sockets or even 'check lights' to come on.

Pls advise.

Cheers,
Z

i already did this like a while ago. FOOTWELL lighting is not standard on the Z. very nice to have and used the LED where it spreads out(Wide angle view) as oppose to normal LED"s which would have a "SPOT"

yellow-ness on the carpet...because of the carpet.

LEDs run at a much cooler temperature then their halogen counterparts, they wont melt the socket at all. The bulb check light wont come on for the interior light, there is no check system for the interior lights. The headlights/sidemarkers, etc. do have a check system.

It's a very easy DIY, if you can pull out a bulb and put in a new one you can do the install. The dome light bulbs may need a little sanding because the LEDs have a larger diameter but thats about the hardest part. Next hardest part is finding the right LED for each application.

I like the lights accept that they dont flow with the BMW lighting, the cheezy orange glow from all the instruments and stuff

Your interior lighting wouldn't be on anyways, EXCEPT while you're driving so it wont matter.

Oh, btw the 6-LED should fit in the center one you just have to install it in a reverse manner. You cant fit it through the hole from behind you can however remove the plastic cover over the center bulb and insert it that way it should fit just fine that way.

So can i just take out my OE bulbs from dome light and bring it to any autoparts store to match specs with blue glassed halogen to replace?

You wouldn't even need to do that, they are 194/168 wedge/peanut bulbs, you'll want the blue glassed ones. Most places sell a full kit for all the bulbs in the car as well.

How did you actually removed the plastic cover? I was not able to open it and didnt want to put too much force to push it out because thought it might break.

just pop it out by sticking something in the edges and cranking in down. requires some force but it does come out.
