What is the best tool to monitor what the EGR is doing?

I have an intermittent hesitation under mild boost that I think is related to the EGR. I have Carly and Rheingold but I am not sure how to monitor the live data related to the EGRs (I have an E70 with 2 EGRs).

Thanks in advance

Torque Pro is excellent for showing what % the computer is requesting. Can be graphed as well. Just find DWR'S custom PIDs

Those tools will not help much if no faults are being set.

There are logging tools out there which do require a high degree of DDE knowledge to install, configure, and analyze the results.

If you suspect EGR- just unplug the HFM - this disables it and sets a fault of course, but is the symptom gone?

I'd check the turbocharger vacuum system control if this test has no effect.

Why do you think EGR functionality will cause hesitation. Would look at turbo vacuum control system as well as MAF, MAP and IAT sensors as well.

Hey there, I'm not 100% sure but think the EGR valve is closed when you have the car under load, as in not not stationary. If the valve is gunked up enough perhaps it is not opening and closing fully, that'd have to be pretty bad build up though.
Maybe another thing you could check it what rpm approximately your hesitation keeps happening at because the three moving parts on the turbo not working smoothly can all stop the smooth ride: big and small turbo actuators and the change over flaps. If any are seized or gunked up the vacuum system cannot operate them smoothly and accurately.

Vacuum control hoses, actuators and red boost hose are all new. So is MAP. When cold engine runs great and when EGR is in warm up engine mode. When WOT engine runs great when EGR is disabled.

I am getting this code once a week even though the MAP is new. Boost pressure sensor signal interruption oKurzschluss to earth Code: 003F01 A few months ago I got some EGR codes when towing my 5000 lb boat but they have not returned. thanks

The EGR is pretty clean. I had the intake out last month to change the vacuum hoses under it. Is the change over flap the one that feeds the red boost hose?

Basic function of EGR is to reduce oxygen for lower combustion temps - too much EGR and combustion is poor and lambda <1. The primary reason for a HFM on the diesel is to monitor EGR air flow. Easy test before troubleshooting the turbocharger vacuum controls. In any event I'd be logging about 20 air flow related labels.
