Questions for those with JB4 tunes

Have a jb4 I bought off a forum member currently on my 6 speed 228i. I know out of the box is set to stage 1. I still have a few things I cant seem to get an answer to:

1) Can you switch maps on it without a laptop or cable? (With volume buttons)

2) On a manual car is there anything to visually confirm the map switch as with the auto?

3) I noticed my Jb4 kicks in after the engine is warmed up properly, is this some sort of safety feature i wasnt aware of?

Any help with be greatly appreciated especially since I will be going to the track tomorrow

1) The latest OBD2 JB4s use the bc button on the indicator stalk for map control and can flap. Involves pressing and holding to get map number to display on tach. The older posi-tap JB4s use the volume control on the steering wheel - tutorial videos on the BMS website.

2) I believe there is no difference at all between the manual and automatic when it comes to map switching and confirmation. The flashing lights just applied to the M DCT shifter afaik. The bluetooth connect kit is the best way to go as you can use the jb4 app on your phone to select map and it tells you which map you are in as a straight forward numeric value at first glance as opposed to reading the needle on the tach. Also allows for easier logging,

3) JB4 only activates at engine oil temp of 70C + for component preservation - which is no hardship as you won't be flogging the car before warm up anyway.

Recommend you get the bluetooth kit or and cable, you'll need it to datalog and make sure your car is running good.. N20/n26 are not friendly to tuning especially anything above map2.

Last but not least get that car ready to hit the drag strip with us lol

Log different parameters on the car, checking certain parameters are running at safe or optimal levels and not running too much boost without proper octane.
