Well I thought if my installer could somehow custom mount 5 1/4 I figured the more cone area the better . Would it be possible to fit Focal K2 5 1/4 in there ?

Sometimes its the quality

Sometimes its the quality
The Morels are some of the best.

If you really want a lot of cone area the Jehnert Panels
are a possible solution if you want to spend that much on your
car.

See the Jehnert site.

I don't wanna spend that much. I just want to know if a competent installer could squeeze 5 1/4 Morels/ Focals/ Rainbows in the front doors of a e93 conv.?

Only top-mounted, which means loss of OEM look and modifications to door panel (making openings larger and possibly cutting into the passenger-side door handles). It definitely requires an experienced installer. Mathematics mounted some Dyn MW152s that way. I would look up the mounting depth of the Dyns and that would be the not-to-exceed number for your search.

Only reason to mount 5 1/4s is to get more mid-bass, in the 100 - 250Hz range. Otherwise, they are inferior to 4" speakers because of "beaming", which means the higher frequencies emit from the speaker in a narrower cone than in a 4" speaker, which may result in dips in the frequency response. A successful installation can be done, but it will probably require EQ and a tweeter that can be crossed over pretty low, say at 2500 Hz.

I was looking at some 5 1/4 sets lately, and I was looking for pure SQ with the addition of beefy midbass response. My three top contenders were:

JBL Gti 560
Boston SPZ50
HAT Clarus C51-2

Note, the JBL and Boston sets are long discontinued, but can be had second hand. Their grilles are big and would probably require some major creativity to make them fit.

I agree that it is not wise to put a 5 inch speaker in place of the 4 inch. You can get plenty of midbass from the under seat location

Sense the 4 inch speakers are mounted on axis pointed across the cabin. You will get flatter frequency response by sticking with them
