ATM Intercooler mini review (updated)

Last week my new ATM intercooler arrived and that a great looking unit.

The welds and finishing on everything it top notch.Gone is the headache from the red boost hose and replaced by tried and true t-clamps. Install was very simple and only took around 1hour with the car on ramps. Light trimming was needed to get it fit.

I started with a boost leak before installing so hard to gauge the true performance gain but MPG is the best i have gotten from it since i bought the car. Last friday i had it out on the 1/4 and was running 1mph better then before. The best part was my times and MPH didn't drop over the course of the night event when hot lapping.

The only thing i would like to add to it would be to have the same style sleeve for the cold side as there is for the turbo side. Thats the last factory seal in the system now and i can't seem to get it to seal tight. I have spoke with the builder if he can whip something up for me so will have to just wait and see.

All and all I'm very happy with it and gives me endless growth room for any future mods ( turbo upgrade )

Took a few photos when i unboxed everything. didn't get around to snapping any from the install.

Thanks for the review......and glad we can help Your mpg's will most likely keep going up, mine did after the install as well.

Just so everyone is clear K335d is referring to the cold side connection up top at the EGR/throttle valve. The OEM quick fittings are great for disassembly, but horrible for leakage, especially under increased boost. I'm sure we can come up with a solution there!

Yeah no doubt. Amazing quality this kit... Factory stuff is garbage in comparison.

I hope nobody is buying it for that price. I got mine from ATM a few months ago for around two thirds that price shipped to Canada.

Seeing that your posts are all about 335i regarding your new intercooler. I am thinking maybe you may be confused. For the 335d it is very difficult to get an intercooler with the correct piping to fit that is of the quality of this one. So either you are confused or just being a prick. This guy is one of very few who is developing parts for these diesels. Hardly anyone has any performance parts for these cars. So, I think we should appreciate people who have the skill and spend the time to put stuff like this together. It is not easy.

Hahahaha. Plus ONE

When I checked the IC alone was in the $600 range. The piping and everything else, well our friend IA barely makes a dime.

Amazing kit, very happy with it.

I know colder air = more power. just curious if any performance gain numbers exist on this?

i think i read that the 335i likes to get hot, is that the same for the 335d hence the want/need to upgrade IC?

Considering I can hit 120F over ambient on a 10 second run, yes, the 335D oem intercooler is terribly inefficient at dealing with high thermal loads. A helix unit is in my somewhat near future .

If one had to pick between this IC and WM, saying they were about the same cost , which one would you pick?

The w/m hands down will provide a larger rwhp gain, so you'll feel more by the seat of the pants.

Intercooler is perfect for everything in between.

Has anyone on here ran straight water yet? I'm currently loving this 30% methanol mix.

I am running straight water right now, but its only because my w/m tank is also my windshield washer tank, my methanol source dried up, and I like to be able to wash my windshield. My preference is 50/50. Havent noticed any quenching and mine come on progressively starting at about 10 psi boost.

Nice. Yeah I'm sure a small nozzle lower is fine.. I was just getting quench when I had 750cc and it was set at 20lbs. Now I'm at 950cc and it comes on more at 25-30lb range.
